PUNE, MAHARASHTRA — Sayali Surve, a prominent model and Mrs India Earth 2019 finalist, has officially returned to Hinduism. The high-profile re-conversion ceremony took place on March 9, 2026, in Pimpri-Chinchwad. Surve, who was born in Mumbai and raised in Pune, has now adopted the name Aadya Surve.

From Pageant Success to Personal Crisis
Sayali Surve first gained national attention during the Mrs India Earth 2019 pageant. At the time, she was celebrated for her academic background and professional drive. She holds a master’s degree in aviation and was seen as a role model for many.

However, her personal life took a difficult turn following her marriage to Aatif Tase. Tase is a businessman based in Mira-Bhayandar. Despite strong opposition from her family, Surve entered the interfaith marriage in 2019. She subsequently converted to Islam and took the name Ateja Tase.

According to recent statements, the marriage was not what she expected. Moreover, she alleged significant mental and physical harassment during her ten-year relationship. She described the decision to marry as the biggest mistake of her life. Additionally, she claimed that she was pressured to follow religious practices against her will.

The Decision to Re-convert
Surve explained that she endured the situation for the sake of her four children. She hoped to keep her family together for many years. Nevertheless, her patience eventually reached a breaking point. She realized that her safety and her children’s well-being were at risk.

“I stayed for a long time because of my children. But as a human being, my patience was over. I had to come out for them.”

The re-conversion process was formalized through a Ghar Wapsi ceremony. This ritual was held at the Arya Samaj Hall in Pimpri-Chinchwad. It included traditional Vedic practices like havan and mantra chanting. Several social and political leaders attended the event to support her transition.

A Message to Women in Distress
Aadya Surve is now using her platform to raise awareness about domestic abuse. She urges other women not to suffer in silence. Furthermore, she emphasized that no one should endure physical or emotional trauma.

She also mentioned that she sought help from the police earlier. However, she felt that she did not receive adequate support at that time. This led her to reach out to local Hindu organizations for assistance. Consequently, she decided to reclaim her original identity and start a new chapter.

Her story has sparked intense discussions across Maharashtra. It highlights the complexities of interfaith marriages and the need for stronger safeguards for women. Surve plans to continue her work in social advocacy, focusing on women’s rights and self-respect.
