New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday praised Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s detailed response in the Lok Sabha regarding the Union Budget, highlighting how this year’s budget will drive India’s economic transformation.
In her speech, Sitharaman outlined a total government expenditure of ₹53.47 lakh crore for the next fiscal year, marking a 7.7% increase over the current fiscal year ending March 31.

Sharing her remarks on X, Modi said, “Finance Minister Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman Ji provided a comprehensive view of how this Budget will contribute to our nation’s economic transformation, focusing on initiatives like Reform Express, support for MSMEs, skill development, next-generation infrastructure, and enhancements in healthcare and education.”

The Finance Minister added that effective capital expenditure is projected to reach ₹17.1 lakh crore, representing 4.4% of GDP. She also emphasized that the government is maintaining fiscal discipline, with the fiscal deficit estimated at 4.3% of GDP (₹16.95 lakh crore) for FY27.
Sitharaman further noted that reducing the debt-to-GDP ratio remains a key objective under the Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management (FRBM) framework.
