Bihar CM Nitish Kumar Inspects Rising Ganga River, Bridge Construction & Beautification Work in Patna
Nitish Kumar Reviews Ganga River Levels, Bridge Project and Beautification Work in Patna
PATNA : Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar conducted an on-site inspection of critical infrastructure and environmental projects in Patna on Monday. Amid rising water levels of the Ganga River, the CM reviewed flood preparedness in riverside areas, examined the progress of beautification work along the J.P. Ganga Path, and assessed the construction of the new six-lane bridge between Digha and Sonpur, aimed at easing travel to the Saran division.
The inspection comes as parts of Bihar brace for potential monsoon-induced flooding, especially in low-lying areas along the riverbanks.
Ganga River Water Level Monitoring: “Remain Fully Alert,” Says CM
While visiting several flood-prone areas near the river, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar directed officials to maintain full vigilance in response to the rising water levels of the Ganga River. Emphasizing the importance of timely action, he instructed the disaster management and water resources departments to ensure that all preventive measures, emergency protocols, and evacuation plans are in place.
“We must be fully alert and proactive to prevent any disruption to people’s lives. Safety and preparedness are our top priorities,” Kumar stated during the inspection.
Local officials provided the CM with updated hydrological data, floodplain analysis, and the status of embankments across Patna district. The government has also activated a 24×7 flood monitoring control room to track water levels and rainfall in real time.
Beautification and Plantation Work Along J.P. Ganga Path
Nitish Kumar also reviewed the plantation and beautification efforts currently underway along the iconic J.P. Ganga Path, a major urban riverfront development initiative designed to enhance Patna’s ecological and recreational profile.
The Chief Minister emphasized the need for high-quality landscaping, green belt creation, and pedestrian-friendly infrastructure, instructing officials to complete the work in a time-bound and aesthetically pleasing manner.
“This riverfront is a symbol of the new Bihar—green, modern, and accessible. Let us ensure that the design and execution reflect that vision,” Kumar added.
Officials from the Urban Development and Forest Departments showcased sapling plantations, bio-fencing installations, and solar lighting systems, which are all part of the sustainable riverfront development blueprint.
Digha–Sonpur 6-Lane Bridge: Boosting Regional Connectivity
A key highlight of the day was CM Kumar’s inspection of the under-construction six-lane bridge being built parallel to the existing J.P. Setu, connecting Digha in Patna to Sonpur in Saran district. Once completed, the bridge will significantly reduce traffic congestion on the current bridge and improve connectivity between Patna and north Bihar.
The project, being executed by the Road Construction Department, is seen as a critical infrastructure milestone in the Bihar government’s push for balanced regional development.
According to engineers present during the review, the new bridge is designed with modern load-bearing capacities, anti-flooding elevation standards, and seismic resistance features.
“This bridge will not only ease transportation but also drive economic activity in surrounding areas,” Nitish Kumar observed during the site visit.
Government’s Integrated Development Approach
The inspections reflect Nitish Kumar’s integrated governance model, which seeks to address environmental risk, urban aesthetics, and infrastructure modernization in tandem. From real-time flood preparedness to long-term urban planning, Monday’s review tour reaffirmed the Bihar government’s focus on resilience and growth.
Senior officials from the Water Resources, Urban Development, Forest, and Road Construction Departments accompanied the Chief Minister during his day-long assessment.
