Ayodhya villages flourish as Yogi Adityanath’s rural tourism policy boosts homestays, artisan jobs, and family incomes up to ₹2 lakh/month.
Villages in the Ayodhya division are experiencing notable economic growth as a result of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s rural tourism strategy. The state government has given local families new sources of income by fusing religious tourism with rural life, customs, and folk culture.
Ninety-three villages in Uttar Pradesh, including 19 in the Ayodhya division, have been chosen for homestay development in the first phase. Fifty homestays are being built in the Ayodhya district in the areas of Amauni, Sherwaghat, Abanpur Saroha, Gauraghat, and Rampurwa; many of these are currently functioning. There are currently 1,186 registered homestays and 292 hotels in the district that provide guests with reasonably priced lodging.
Youth, women, and artisans now have more jobs because to improved infrastructure, cultural experience centers, rural housing, and local food facilities. Previously earning between Rs 40,000 and Rs 50,000 a month, homestays are now bringing in up to Rs 2 lakh. Up till February 2025, over 69 lakh reservations were taken via the Divya Ayodhya app, with average daily lodging rates between Rs 1,500 and Rs 2,500, according to officials.

Rural homestay registrations have skyrocketed since the Homestay Policy 2025 went into effect, and operators have reported a 40% increase in monthly income. Even in little homestays with just two or three rooms, residents are making between Rs 50,000 and Rs 1 lakh.
According to Anshuman Tiwari, the operator of the guesthouse, the Ram Mandir’s building has greatly improved local livelihoods. Ayodhya’s artisan population has grown by more than 25%, and rural tourism has given traditional crafts and folk art a new lease on life.
Women who work in hospitality, local food, domestic goods, and cleaning for rural cultural experience groups make between Rs 5,000 and Rs 12,000 a month.
According to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Ayodhya ought to be renowned for its villages’ customs and culture in addition to its temples. The government hopes to create a sustainable economic model that would help hundreds of thousands of rural families and position Uttar Pradesh as a leader in rural tourism through homestays, cultural tours, rural dining, farming activities, artisan markets, and riverfront experiences.
