Major boost to Delhi-NCR connectivity
NOIDA : Commuters in Delhi-NCR are set to enjoy faster and smoother travel as Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated two major highway projects in Delhi on Sunday. The new developments include the Delhi section of the Dwarka Expressway and four packages of the Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II).
Developed at a combined cost of nearly ₹11,000 crore, the projects are designed to ease congestion, improve logistics, and cut travel time between Noida and Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport to just 20 minutes.
For passengers, this comes as a big relief, as reaching the airport from Noida has long been a time-consuming journey due to heavy traffic across Delhi’s major routes.
Noida to IGI Airport in record time
One of the standout benefits of the projects is the drastic reduction in travel time to IGI Airport. The new expressway link ensures that commuters from Noida can now reach the airport in only 20 minutes.
This efficiency will benefit both daily travelers and air passengers. For years, commuters have faced unpredictable delays, often arriving late due to traffic snarls on roads like the Ring Road and NH-48.
Moreover, the improved connectivity will also make it easier for NCR residents to access central and western parts of Delhi. The projects are expected to ease pressure on overburdened stretches like Dhaula Kuan and Rajokri.
Economic and industrial impact
The infrastructure projects are not only aimed at passengers but also at boosting trade and industry. The expressways offer direct connectivity to Bahadurgarh and Sonipat, helping industries in Haryana reduce logistics costs.
Cargo carriers and trucks will experience smoother movement, with delays minimized due to dedicated bypasses. The projects also provide efficient access to Haryana’s industrial clusters, making freight transport faster and more reliable.
Government officials said the infrastructure upgrade will enhance the competitiveness of businesses operating in NCR and surrounding regions.
A step toward Modi’s infrastructure vision
The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) described the inauguration as part of Narendra Modi’s broader vision to build world-class infrastructure in India.
By reducing congestion, eliminating traffic bottlenecks, and improving logistics, these projects are expected to significantly improve the “ease of living” for NCR residents.
The Haryana section of the Dwarka Expressway, measuring 19 km, was inaugurated earlier in March 2024. With the completion of the Delhi stretch and UER-II packages, the NCR region now has a more integrated and efficient road network.
Transport analysts say the move could reshape commuting patterns, especially for professionals who travel frequently between Noida, Gurugram, and Delhi.
Looking ahead
Officials expect that the expressways will also contribute to economic growth across Delhi-NCR by making passenger and goods transport more reliable. Better travel times can boost real estate demand in Noida and Greater Noida while giving industries faster links to supply chains.
Urban planners suggest that such mega projects could also encourage more investments in satellite cities like Sonipat and Bahadurgarh, further balancing urban growth across NCR.
For millions of daily commuters, however, the biggest takeaway remains simple: a quicker, stress-free journey between Noida and the airport.
