Ghaziabad to get a traffic upgrade as GDA restructures 7 key junctions, proposes elevated roads, and revives its long-pending mobility plan.
An advisory detailing efforts to improve traffic flow at seven “congested intersections” throughout the city was released by the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) on Wednesday. In addition to other engineering improvements judged required, the reorganization will include actions like enlarging junctions, generating more road space, enhancing left-turn channels, and installing adjacent U-turns.
Among the Seven Congested Intersections are:
- Crossing of Thakurdwara
- Chungi Hapur
- The roundabout in Madhuban Bapudham
- Pratap Vihar’s DPS School Crossing
- Crossroads close to Ajnara Integrity
- Chowk, Aashiana
- stretch in Raj Nagar Extension next to Bunkar Mart
The vice-chairperson of the authority, Nand Kishor Kalal, stated, “The intersections will be restructured with infrastructure upgrades, widened, and also beautified.” Officials explained that the GDA is not responsible for traffic enforcement.
Currently, a comprehensive restructuring strategy is being created for each of the seven locations. The project is anticipated to be finished in six to seven months after tenders and permissions are finalized.

Separately, the GDA has chosen to work with the Central Road Research Institute (CRRI) to resurrect its long-delayed “comprehensive mobility plan.” Despite receiving the mobility plan in 2019 and signing a Memorandum of Understanding with CRRI in February 2018, officials say the recommendations were never completely implemented. The mobility plan suggested measures to improve current road networks, reduce travel time, and ease traffic on main routes.
“Within the next six to seven months, we anticipate an updated comprehensive mobility plan for Ghaziabad, as we are currently renegotiating terms with CRRI,” Kalal stated. “The plan suggests changes to the infrastructure and will help reduce congestion.” To enhance traffic flow on important routes, we have previously suggested two elevated roadways and one flyover. We are reorganizing seven significant crossings that frequently encounter traffic congestion in addition to these recommendations.
GDA’s media coordinator, Rudresh Shukla, stated that the revised strategy might either need a new evaluation or take into account the results of the previous survey. “A number of modifications were recommended in the previous study, however they were not implemented. Now, CRRI will assess if those results remain relevant or if a new survey is required. Current ground conditions will be included in the new mobility strategy,” he stated.
Among the proposals are:
There are two suggested elevated sections:
First. An estimated Rs 350 crore will be spent on a 3.5 kilometer, four-lane elevated road from Raj Nagar Extension crossing to Morti.
2. a two-kilometer, four-lane elevated section of Grand Trunk Road that will cost Rs 200 crore to build and connect Ghanta Ghar Ramlila Ground to the Bhatia Morh flyover.

Additionally, a new flyover has been suggested:
First. An estimated Rs 150 crore will be spent on a 1.5 km, four-lane flyover that would connect the Diamond Flyover in Shastri Nagar to the ALT Center at Kamla Nehru Nagar.
