Ghaziabad Traffic Diversions for Kanwar Yatra 2025 Begin July 11: Full Route Plan
Kanwar Yatra 2025: Major Traffic Diversions in Ghaziabad from July 11 — All You Need to Know
Ghaziabad, July 5, 2025 — With the Kanwar Yatra 2025 approaching, the Ghaziabad Traffic Police has announced major traffic diversions effective from July 11 to ensure the safe and smooth passage of Kanwariyas — the devotees of Lord Shiva undertaking the annual pilgrimage to fetch holy water from the Ganga River in Uttarakhand.
The Delhi-Meerut Road, Delhi-Meerut Expressway, and Muradnagar to Tila Morh Pipeline Road will face significant restrictions during this period. National Highway (NH)-9 and the Eastern Peripheral Expressway (EPE) will serve as alternative routes for both heavy and light vehicles.
Key Traffic Diversion Details
- Start Date for Heavy Vehicle Diversions: July 11, 2025 (from 10 PM)
- Start Date for Light Vehicle Diversions: July 17, 2025 (from 8 PM)
- End Date: Morning of July 25, 2025
- Alternative Routes: NH-9, Eastern Peripheral Expressway (EPE)
Heavy vehicles will be restricted from the three key roads from July 11, and will have to use NH-9 via UP Gate to reach Dasna, Hapur, and beyond. From there, they can use the EPE to reach Palwal, Baghpat, Greater Noida, and other western Uttar Pradesh cities.
Light vehicle restrictions will kick in from July 17, following similar diversion patterns.
Dedicated Routes for Kanwariyas
This year’s yatra will see structured route segregation for different types of Kanwariyas:
On-foot Kanwariyas:
- Primary Route: Muradnagar to Tila Morh Pipeline Road
- Additional Path: Delhi-Meerut Road
Dak Kanwar Participants:
- Route: Delhi-Meerut Expressway
Dak Kanwar, the high-speed format of the pilgrimage, involves light commercial vehicles with relay runners trailing behind, covering the distance from Uttarakhand to their hometowns with high devotion and urgency.
Impacted Areas & Stretch Details
Ghaziabad’s main Kanwar route spans 25 km, from Muradnagar to Tila Morh, while the stretch from Kadrabad border to Delhi-Ghaziabad border measures 42.5 km.
An auxiliary route of 53 km — covering parts of the Delhi-Meerut Expressway and NH-9 — will also be affected by diversions and temporary closures.
Internal City Traffic Arrangements
To manage the Kanwar Yatra rush within Ghaziabad city limits:
- Heavy police deployment is planned, alongside civil defence volunteers.
- Local traffic will run in a restricted manner with priority given to Kanwariyas.
- Barricades will be placed to prevent local/internal traffic from entering restricted Kanwar routes.
- Special enforcement will be in place during peak Kanwar days to ensure discipline.
Police assured that strict monitoring and law enforcement will be conducted throughout the event.
