Fake Interpol Police Bureau Busted in Noida run by former TMC leader
NOIDA : A major fraud plot was exposed in Noida this week when authorities dismantled a fake Interpol police bureau. The operation was masterminded by former Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Bibhas Chandra Adhikari, and involved six individuals posing as international law-enforcement agents to extort victims.
The Fraudulent Setup Unveiled
Noida police raided a rented house in Sector 70, where the group had set up an office disguised as the “International Police & Crime Investigation Bureau.” They displayed fake police logos, uniforms, and forged documents, claiming affiliation with Interpol and other international agencies. The accused even operated a website (www.intlpcrib.in) to solicit “donations” and advance their scam online.
Who Was Behind It
Bibhas Chandra Adhikari, a former TMC block president from Birbhum, and his son Arghya, along with four associates, were arrested. Adhikari has a history of legal trouble—he was previously questioned by the CBI and ED in a teachers’ recruitment scam. The accused used to send fake summons, display forged seals, and issue letters in formal court language, threatening legal action if targets failed to pay.
Evidence Recovered During Raid
In the raid, police seized a trove of incriminating materials: forged IDs, ministry certificates (Tribal Affairs, Ayush, Social Justice), rubber stamps, cheque books, signboards, visiting cards, mobile phones, and over ₹42,000. The DCP of Central Noida confirmed the elaborate nature of the deception, noting the use of police-style insignia to reinforce credibility.
Links to Kolkata and Political Fallout
Investigations also revealed a similar illicit office in Kolkata’s Beliaghata area, which Adhikari had attempted to register in late July. Thankfully, the local police intervened in time to remove the board referencing the fake bureau Neighbors reported seeing armed security and a vehicle with a blue beacon—suggesting an attempt to portray officialdom and intimidate locals
Legal Action and Investigation Ongoing
A formal case has been filed under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, IT Act, and Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper Use) Act All six accused are now in judicial custody, and police continue probing for additional victims or accomplices
