Once a RAS Topper Arrested for ₹60,000 Bribery Case: A Shocking Fall from Grace

Anti-Corruption Bureau Traps 2024-Batch Officer Kajal Meena and Two Staffers in Nadoti; Suspicious ₹4 Lakh Cash Seized in Dramatic Raid

KARAULI — The administrative landscape of Rajasthan witnessed a stunning downfall this Thursday as a high-profile RAS Topper arrested headline dominated the news cycle. The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) apprehended Kajal Meena, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Nadoti, during a meticulously planned trap operation. Meena, a celebrated 2024-batch officer, was caught red-handed while allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹60,000. Alongside her, the ACB also took her reader, Dinesh Kumar Saini, and senior assistant, Praveen Dhakad, into custody for their involvement in the extortion racket.

The operation took place following a verified complaint from a local resident regarding a land partition (Takasima) decree. According to ACB Director General Govind Gupta, the accused initially demanded a staggering ₹1 lakh to issue the final order. After negotiations, the trio settled for a ₹60,000 payoff. However, the complainant approached the Sawai Madhopur ACB unit instead of complying. Consequently, a strike team was formed to intercept the illegal transaction inside the SDM office premises.

The Prodigy’s Fall: From IIT Merit to Corruption Charges

The news of the RAS Topper arrested has sent shockwaves primarily due to Meena’s stellar academic and professional credentials. A B.Tech graduate in Electrical Engineering from the prestigious IIT Mandi, Kajal Meena was seen as a role model for aspiring civil servants. She secured the top rank in the ST category in the RAS 2021 examination. Before her administrative debut, she served in significant roles within the EPFO and the Department of Telecommunications.

Ironically, a past interview of the officer has now resurfaced on social media platforms. In the video, she speaks passionately about using her “legitimate authority to bring positive changes” to the lives of common people. Many citizens now point to the stark contrast between those words and the current reality of her arrest. This incident marks one of the quickest falls from grace for a newly minted officer in the history of the Rajasthan Administrative Service.

₹4 Lakh “Unaccounted” Collection Raises Further Suspicions

While the primary trap focused on the ₹60,000 bribe, the ACB discovery didn’t end there. During a thorough search of a bag carried by the staff members, officials recovered an additional ₹4 lakh in cash. The bureau has labeled this amount as “suspicious” and likely the result of other illegal collections made throughout the day. Therefore, the scope of the investigation has now expanded to include all land-related files handled by the Nadoti office over the last six months.

The trap was executed under the direct supervision of DIG Dr. Rameshwar Singh and ASP Gyansingh Chaudhary. The team used standard chemical testing on the bribe money to confirm that the accused had handled the marked notes. Additionally, searches were conducted at the residential properties of all three accused late into the night. Preliminary reports suggest that investigators are looking for further evidence of disproportionate assets that might have been accumulated in a very short span.

Systemic Accountability and the Path Forward

This RAS Topper arrested case serves as a grim reminder of the corruption challenges within state bureaucracy. Despite the rigorous selection process and high-level training at the HCM RIPA, the lure of easy money persists. Government spokespersons emphasized that this arrest underscores the state’s “zero-tolerance” policy toward corruption. They reiterated that no degree of academic excellence provides immunity against criminal activities in public office.

As Kajal Meena and her associates undergo interrogation, the legal process will now move to the Special ACB Court. If convicted under the Prevention of Corruption Act, the 2024-batch officer faces a significant prison term and immediate dismissal from service. For the people of Karauli, this incident is a bittersweet victory. While it removes a corrupt official, it leaves a shadow of doubt over the integrity of the next generation of administrators.
