Tarn Taran Police, BSF Recover 3.9 Kg Heroin Dropped by Drone Near Punjab Border

Anti-drone system detects cross-border smuggling attempt; DJI Matrice drone also seized in joint operation

by Desk

In a significant action against cross-border drug smuggling, the Tarn Taran Police, in coordination with the Border Security Force (BSF), recovered 3.925 kg of heroin from agricultural fields near Border Outpost (BOP) Kaalian.

Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said the recovery was made as part of the state government’s ongoing campaign to curb narcotics and strengthen border security, in line with the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.

Along with the heroin consignment, police teams also recovered a DJI Matrice drone, which was reportedly used by Pakistan-based smugglers to deliver the narcotics across the international border. The recovery points to continued attempts by smuggling networks to use advanced technology for cross-border drug trafficking. The DGP said investigations are underway to identify handlers across the border, trace supply chains, and dismantle the entire smuggling network.

Providing operational details, SSP Tarn Taran Surendra Lamba said that the Punjab Government’s “Baaz Akh” anti-drone system detected suspicious drone activity near the BOP Kaalian area. Police immediately alerted the BSF, following which a joint search operation was launched. The drone carrying the heroin was neutralised, and the consignment was later recovered from nearby fields.

The SSP added that efforts are ongoing to identify the intended recipient of the seized heroin. In connection with the recovery, FIR No. 20 dated February 3, 2026, has been registered at Police Station Valtoha, Tarn Taran, under Section 21C of the NDPS Act and Sections 25, 26 and 29 of the Bharatiya Vayuyan Adhiniyam.
