DGP Gaurav Yadav: Punjab Police Seize 5 Kg Heroin in Amritsar Operation

Four accused arrested after intelligence-based operation near Sada Pind in Amritsar, says DGP Gaurav Yadav

According to Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav, Counter Intelligence (CI) Amritsar has busted a cross-border drug smuggling racket, arresting four accused and recovering 5 kg of heroin in an intelligence-led operation.

The arrested persons have been identified as Sukhchain Singh alias Mani, Navdeep Singh, Sukhpal Singh, and Akashdeep Singh, all residents of village Daoke in Amritsar district. Police teams also confiscated two Splendor motorcycles, bearing registration numbers PB02EU7751 and PB02DY9343, which were allegedly used to transport the narcotics.

According to the DGP Gaurav Yadav , preliminary investigations indicate that the accused were in direct contact with a Pakistan-based smuggler, who was sending heroin consignments across the international border using drones near their village. The drugs were then allegedly distributed to various locations within Punjab.

Specific Intelligence Leads to Arrests and Heroin Recovery : DGP Gaurav Yadav

Providing further details, DGP Gaurav Yadav  said Counter Intelligence Amritsar received specific intelligence inputs that Sukhchain Singh alias Mani was operating a drug trafficking module along with his associates. The group had recently received a large heroin consignment from across the border and was planning to deliver it near village Kala Ghanupur at Sada Pind in Amritsar. Acting on the tip-off, police teams set up a checkpoint on the bypass road near Sada Pind, intercepted the suspects, and recovered the heroin from their possession.

The DGP Gaurav Yadav added that investigations are ongoing to trace both forward and backward linkages of the smuggling network.

In connection with the recovery, FIR No. 5 dated February 4, 2026, has been registered at Police Station State Special Operation Cell, Amritsar, under Sections 21, 25, and 29 of the NDPS Act.
