Punjab Information Commission Issues Warrant Against Ludhiana MC Official

Warrant issued against PIO-cum-Assistant Town Planner for repeated absence during RTI appeal hearings

Punjab : The Punjab State Information Commission has issued a warrant against the Public Information Officer (PIO)-cum-Assistant Town Planner of the Building Branch (Zone D) of the Municipal Corporation, Ludhiana, for repeatedly failing to appear before the Commission during the hearing of an appeal case.

Sharing details, Punjab State Information Commission Commissioner Harpreet Singh Sandhu said the action was taken in connection with Appeal Case No. 6157 of 2023, filed by Jasvir Singh, a resident of Guru Nanak Nagar in village Bholapur Jhabewal, Ludhiana district.

The warrant has been issued against Kuljit Singh Mangat, PIO-cum-Assistant Town Planner of Building Branch Zone D, directing him to appear before the Commission on March 11, 2026.

According to the Information Commission , the official remained absent despite repeated directions during four hearings held so far in the case. A show-cause notice had also been issued earlier, but there was no compliance.

In view of continued non-appearance, the Information Commission has invoked Section 18(3)(a) of the Right to Information Act, 2005, and directed the Commissioner of Police, Ludhiana, to ensure service of the warrant and instruct the concerned officer to appear before the Commission on the next date of hearing.
