Chandigarh: Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the Mann government has made remarkable strides in Punjab tourism and infrastructure development, transforming rest houses into revenue-generating hubs and modernizing irrigation facilities across the state. The initiatives are part of the government’s broader vision to improve public amenities, enhance agricultural productivity, and boost the local economy.

Rest House Development: A Boost to Tourism and Local Economy

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann invited journalists to witness the newly developed and renovated tourist destinations, highlighting the government’s commitment to creating sustainable facilities for both citizens and visitors. Under this initiative, 26 locations dedicated to tourism have been developed or upgraded, including the Ropar Head Works and Hussainiwala Rest House.

These rest houses now offer modern amenities such as boating facilities, dining options, and well-maintained accommodations for families, making them attractive destinations for weekend getaways. Officials say this approach not only promotes tourism but also provides a steady source of income for the state.

“The renovation of these rest houses exemplifies how the Mann government is integrating tourism with development. These facilities are designed to provide visitors a memorable experience while contributing to Punjab’s economic growth,” said CM Bhagwant Mann.

Irrigation Achievements and Agricultural Benefits

Alongside tourism, the Mann government has executed historic initiatives in irrigation, a key pillar of Punjab tourism and infrastructure development. Over the past four years, the government has:

  • Established 8 new canals benefiting six districts.
  • Installed 28 lift pumps in Ropar and Hoshiarpur, with 18 already operational and work continuing on 10 more.
  • Developed 5 new groundwater divisions to ensure water availability.
  • Revived the Shahpur Kandi Dam after 25 years at a cost of ₹3,394.49 crore, supplying water to thousands of hectares of farmland.

These irrigation projects ensure that farmers have reliable access to water, enhancing crop yields, reducing dependence on rainfall, and supporting rural livelihoods. By combining water infrastructure with tourism development, the government has created a holistic model for Punjab tourism and infrastructure development.

Impact on Citizens and the Economy

The dual focus on tourism and infrastructure development is expected to have long-term benefits for Punjab:

  • Rural communities gain access to better irrigation, increasing agricultural productivity.
  • Modernized rest houses attract domestic and international tourists, boosting local businesses and employment.
  • Integrated development projects enhance the standard of living and strengthen the state’s economy.

Officials note that the Mann government’s commitment to transparency is evident in the detailed documentation of water sources, canals, and dams connected to these projects, ensuring accountability in Punjab tourism and infrastructure development.

The Mann government’s efforts in Punjab tourism and infrastructure development demonstrate a balanced approach to state growth. By reviving lost canals, building new irrigation facilities, and transforming rest houses into tourism hubs, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has successfully combined economic development with citizen welfare. These projects not only support farmers and rural communities but also encourage tourism, providing Punjab with sustainable growth and long-term prosperity.
