Revenue, Rehabilitation and Disaster Management Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian announced the measure on Tuesday, reaffirming the government’s commitment to timely relief and long-term rehabilitation.
According to officials, ₹35.50 crore was already released to all districts earlier as the first phase of assistance. An additional ₹35.50 crore has now been sanctioned specifically for 12 worst-affected districts that have borne maximum loss of life, crops, and property.

Focus on Farmers and Rehabilitation
The floods have caused widespread destruction of agricultural land, leaving many farmers in dire straits. Large tracts of standing crops have been submerged, threatening the livelihoods of thousands of families dependent on farming.
Minister Mundian stressed that the government is paying special attention to farmers who have faced severe crop damage. He added that beyond immediate relief, the administration is preparing long-term rehabilitation strategies, including compensation for crop losses and measures to strengthen embankments in flood-prone areas.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s government, he said, is committed to restoring normalcy and ensuring that financial aid reaches the grassroots quickly.
Relief, Rescue, and Long-Term Measures
The government has also mobilized disaster management teams to coordinate rescue and relief operations. Local administrations have been directed to work closely with community groups to ensure transparency and timely delivery of aid.
Moreover, officials indicated that long-term rehabilitation plans would involve not just rebuilding damaged infrastructure but also implementing preventive measures to minimize future flood risks. This includes improving drainage systems, strengthening embankments, and ensuring better coordination between departments during emergencies.
The government’s dual focus on immediate aid and structural improvements reflects a comprehensive strategy to deal with natural disasters.
Punjab’s Ongoing Struggle with Floods
Punjab has been one of the hardest-hit states during this monsoon season. Heavy rainfall and overflowing rivers have inundated several villages, leaving families displaced and damaging both homes and farmland.
So far, thousands of residents have been evacuated from low-lying areas, while relief camps have been set up to provide food, water, and medical assistance. Officials have also reported significant livestock losses, further deepening the crisis for rural households.
The fresh release of funds signals a strong response from the state government to support rehabilitation in the hardest-hit regions. However, the coming weeks will be crucial in assessing how effectively the relief measures are implemented.
