Raghav Chadha Acts Amid Punjab Flood Crisis

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Raghav Chadha has sanctioned ₹3.25 crore from his MPLADS funds to support flood-hit regions of Punjab. The funds aim to provide immediate relief and long-term rehabilitation in the state’s most affected districts.

Punjab has faced one of its worst floods in decades, with over 30 fatalities and thousands of displaced families. The deluge has submerged farmlands and damaged infrastructure, prompting urgent government and community interventions.

Chadha emphasized that the allocated funds will directly benefit the affected population, stating, “This is Punjab’s money, for Punjab’s people.” The announcement was accompanied by a video message expressing solidarity and condolences for the victims.

Fund Allocation for Gurdaspur and Amritsar

Of the ₹3.25 crore, ₹2.75 crore is earmarked for Gurdaspur District. These funds will strengthen and repair flood protection embankments, aiming to safeguard villages from future calamities.

The remaining ₹50 lakh is designated for relief and rehabilitation in Amritsar District, which has also been severely affected by overflowing rivers and inundated settlements.

The move highlights a proactive approach to disaster management, ensuring that both immediate relief and long-term protective measures are addressed simultaneously.

Collaboration with Forces and Volunteers

Raghav Chadha acknowledged the efforts of various agencies assisting during the flood crisis. The Indian Army, BSF, Punjab Police, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), NGOs, civil society groups, and local youths have played a key role in rescue operations and aid distribution.

The MP appealed to the Central Government for maximum support to Punjab, stressing that collaborative efforts are essential in tackling one of the worst natural disasters in recent memory.

Punjab Floods: Extent of Damage

State government reports indicate that 12 districts have been severely affected by overflowing rivers, while 23 districts are declared flood-hit. Thousands of people have been displaced, losing homes, livestock, and livelihoods.

Floodwaters have destroyed crops across vast tracts of farmland, further exacerbating economic distress. Immediate financial support and rehabilitation measures are critical to restoring normalcy in these regions.

Relief Efforts and Next Steps

Chadha’s fund allocation from MPLADS emphasizes the importance of swift government response during disasters. Strengthening embankments and supporting relief work ensures both short-term aid and long-term prevention.

Authorities are expected to continue monitoring flood-affected areas and provide assistance through coordinated efforts between government departments, civil agencies, and community volunteers.

The coming weeks will be crucial in assessing the overall impact of floods and implementing measures to prevent further loss of life and property.
