Direct Oversight in Every Flood-Hit Village
In a decisive step to strengthen flood management, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has ordered the deployment of around 1,700 gazetted officers across flood-hit villages. Each officer will be assigned to a marooned village to directly supervise rescue and relief operations.
The move is aimed at ensuring seamless communication between the state administration and residents affected by the devastating floods. With officers on the ground, villagers will be able to report challenges directly and expect prompt responses.
According to government data, 1,698 villages across 23 districts have been inundated, leaving over 3.8 lakh people impacted by the disaster.
Relief Efforts Gain Momentum
CM Mann emphasized that large-scale relief and rescue operations are already underway. Special attention is being paid to ensure that displaced families receive essentials such as food, clean water, and medical aid.
“Our government is fully committed to the well-being of citizens during these testing times. No one should face any difficulty while the state fights the flood crisis,” said Mann.
By placing gazetted officers in every village, the administration aims to cut delays, reduce bureaucratic hurdles, and deliver timely help where it is needed most.
Fair Compensation for Flood Losses
The Chief Minister also announced a special Girdawari (survey) to assess damages suffered by residents. Officers have been instructed to conduct the exercise in a transparent manner to ensure that affected families receive fair and timely compensation.
“We will compensate people for every loss they have suffered. Whether it is crops, homes, or livelihoods, the government stands with its people,” Mann assured.
Farmers, in particular, are expected to benefit from this move, as large tracts of agricultural land have been submerged, threatening the livelihood of thousands of families.
Government’s Commitment to Flood-Hit Punjab
The deployment of officers marks a significant escalation in Punjab’s disaster response. Beyond immediate relief, the state is also focused on long-term recovery measures, including restoring infrastructure, strengthening embankments, and preventing future flood risks.
The Chief Minister called on citizens to remain resilient and assured that the government’s zero-delay response system will remain in place until normalcy returns to all affected areas.
