Punjab Govt Extends Support to Flood-Affected Families

The Punjab Government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, has begun providing financial assistance to families who lost loved ones during the devastating floods. On Wednesday, Cabinet Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak handed over cheques worth 4 lakh each to four families at the District Administrative Complex, Malikpur (Pathankot).

The floods, which wreaked havoc across Punjab, have not only damaged crops and livestock but also claimed several lives. Speaking at the event, Minister Kataruchak assured that the government stands “shoulder to shoulder” with the affected families and is committed to providing them with every possible form of support.

Eight Lives Lost in Pathankot Floods

According to official records, eight people from Pathankot district lost their lives due to the floods. The minister said that while four families received compensation cheques today, the remaining four families will soon be provided with the same assistance.

The deceased include:

  • Jagtar from village Attewal
  • Sahil from Dhangu Saraan
  • Keshav Kumar and Reshma from Rajpura

“This financial support cannot fill the void left behind, but it will help families cope with immediate challenges,” Kataruchak said.

Pathankot Becomes First District to Act

Pathankot has become the first district in Punjab to undertake this initiative of releasing financial assistance to families of the deceased. Officials, including Deputy Commissioner Aditya Uppal, SDM Rakesh Meena, and District Revenue Officer Pawan Kumar, were present during the cheque distribution.

Local leaders such as Halqa Incharge Sujanpur Amit Mantu and Block President Sandeep Kumar also attended the event, showing solidarity with the bereaved families.

The minister reiterated that the state government is working tirelessly to assess damages and ensure that relief reaches every corner of Punjab impacted by the floods.

Punjab Govt’s Relief Commitment

The Bhagwant Mann government has already announced multiple relief measures for farmers, daily wage earners, and families who have been displaced. The aid for flood victims is part of a broader effort to rebuild livelihoods and restore normalcy across affected regions.

Kataruchak emphasized that the government remains committed to providing relief and will continue to take proactive steps to support those in need. “The loss of human life is irreparable, but timely support is the least we can offer to the grieving families,” he added.

As rescue and relief operations continue, the government has urged citizens to reach out to local authorities to report damages and seek assistance.
