A silent revolution is reshaping the education landscape in Punjab. Under the powerful banner of Sikhya Kranti (Education Revolution), Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains has spearheaded infrastructure development projects worth ₹1.49 crore in government schools across Sri Anandpur Sahib constituency—marking a significant shift in the state’s vision for public education.
With this move, government school campuses in the region are witnessing a makeover that rivals private institutions. From boundary walls and classroom renovations to science labs, libraries, and Wi-Fi connectivity—these upgrades are not just cosmetic. They’re transformative.
“This is not just construction. It’s a commitment to every child’s future,” said EM Bains during the inauguration ceremony.
At the heart of the upgrades are multiple schools in rural pockets—Massewal, Jeowal, Cheekna, Daboora, Majher, and others—where improvements range from building new boundary walls to repairing infrastructure long overdue for attention. The Massewal Senior Secondary School alone received a renovation worth ₹17 lakh, while others saw upgrades under the holistic development plan.
But this mission goes beyond bricks and mortar. Minister Bains emphasized how these developments reflect the government’s larger aim: bridging the quality gap between public and private education. Security systems, dedicated staff rooms, furniture, labs, and accessible facilities are just some of the previously “private-school-only” features now reaching rural kids.
In a heartening statistic, Massewal School’s enrollment showcased more girls (321) than boys (312), highlighting a positive social shift towards gender parity in education. Bains proudly acknowledged this, emphasizing the role of safe, equipped schools in encouraging families to educate their daughters.
Among other highlights, a ‘School of Happiness’ is already operating in Lakher to cater to children from the remote Changer region—eliminating long travel times and boosting retention. And coming soon is a ‘School of Eminence’ in Kiratpur Sahib, backed by a whopping ₹12 crore investment.
The transformation isn’t limited to classrooms. Infrastructure around these institutions is improving too. Roads connecting villages like Tarapur, Massewal, and Samlah are being constructed or widened to make daily commuting safer and easier for students.
“We’re not just renovating schools; we’re renovating mindsets,” Bains added. “This is Punjab’s promise—to educate with dignity and equal opportunity.”
Locals welcomed the minister warmly, showing heartfelt gratitude for prioritizing education with such vigor. Under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s leadership, this initiative marks more than a developmental milestone—it symbolizes hope, progress, and a belief that every student, no matter where they are born, deserves the best.
As the Sikhya Kranti gains momentum, one thing is clear: the future of Punjab’s education system is being built today—brick by brick, school by school, student by student.
