Gangster Romil Vohra Killed in Police Encounter Near Delhi-Haryana Border
Gangster Romil Vohra with ₹3 Lakh Bounty Shot Dead in Delhi Police Encounter Near Haryana Border
In a high-stakes operation, Delhi Police Special Cell gunned down Romil Vohra, a 20-year-old notorious gangster associated with the Kala Rana gang, in a dramatic encounter near the Prem Bari Bridge along the Delhi-Haryana border on Tuesday morning.
The shootout marks a significant blow to organised crime in the NCR region, as Vohra had emerged as one of the most wanted criminals in Delhi, Haryana, and Punjab, with a ₹3 lakh bounty on his head.
Gunfight Erupts at Prem Bari Bridge
According to officials, the Special Cell tracked Vohra to a hideout near the canal adjacent to Prem Bari Bridge. When cornered, he opened fire on the approaching police team. In the retaliatory firing, Vohra was shot dead.
Two police personnel — Sub-Inspector Praveen and Constable Rohan — were injured in the encounter and are currently receiving treatment at a local hospital. Their condition is reported to be stable.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) confirmed the incident and described the operation as a “strategic and necessary intervention to neutralize a serious threat.”
Young but Deadly: Vohra’s Crime Trail
Despite being just 20 years old, Romil Vohra had amassed a fearsome reputation. A resident of Ashok Vihar, Vohra was reportedly responsible for four murders in just eight months. His name had become synonymous with ruthless gang violence in Yamunanagar, Kurukshetra, and Mohali.
Among the most high-profile cases linked to him was the triple murder in Khedi Lakha Singh (Yamunanagar) and the targeted killing of liquor trader Shantanu in Kurukshetra.
In total, nine FIRs had been filed against Vohra, including charges of:
- Murder
- Extortion
- Armed robbery
- Unlawful possession and smuggling of firearms
A Life of Crime: From School Dropout to Gang Enforcer
Vohra’s descent into crime began early. He dropped out of school after Class 10, showing little interest in education or conventional employment. Influenced heavily by his father Kapil, who is also currently lodged in jail, Romil was indoctrinated into gang culture in his teens.
Drawn by the lure of power, money, and notoriety, he aligned himself with the Kala Rana gang, one of the most feared criminal syndicates operating in northern India. Within a short time, Vohra became a top shooter and field operator in the gang, often coordinating extortion threats and carrying out hits.
Recruiting the Next Generation of Criminals
Authorities revealed a disturbing aspect of Vohra’s criminal network — he played a key role in radicalising local youth. Using his reputation and social media, Vohra would recruit young boys from troubled backgrounds, offering them money, weapons, and gang protection.
“He was not just a criminal; he was a symbol of fear and a dangerous influence,” said a senior officer from the Delhi Special Cell. “By neutralising him, we’ve also disrupted a growing chain of radicalisation.”
