Delhi BJP faces criticism after CM Rekha Gupta ’s Shaheed Bhagat Singh remarks and doctored Atishi video create political controversy.
The political landscape in Delhi has been heating up, with the BJP facing mounting criticism over recent controversies involving Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and the alleged manipulation of a video of AAP MLA Atishi. Opposition parties claim these incidents highlight a growing pattern of embarrassment for the ruling party in the capital.
Critics point out that CM Rekha Gupta has struggled publicly with her speeches, including difficulties in pronouncing key terms such as Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI). Reports suggest that Gupta was recently instructed to strictly “read from notes” during media interactions and official addresses. Despite these measures, she reportedly made a controversial statement claiming that Shaheed Bhagat Singh threw a bomb on the Congress government, which has drawn widespread ridicule and criticism.

Simultaneously, the BJP has been embroiled in the controversy surrounding Atishi’s video, in which opposition leaders claim her words were manipulated to suggest disrespect toward Guru Teg Bahadur Ji. AAP leaders have denied the allegations, emphasizing that the video was doctored and calling the controversy a political ploy to distract from CM Gupta’s statements.

Political analysts say these consecutive missteps are compounding the BJP’s challenges in Delhi. While the party attempts to defend itself, AAP and other opposition members have leveraged the situation to underscore what they describe as “careless and politically motivated tactics” by the ruling party.
“This controversy around Atishi is not about disrespect to Sikh Gurus, but about deflecting attention from the CM’s gaffe regarding Shaheed Bhagat Singh,” said a senior AAP spokesperson.
The incidents are likely to keep Delhi politics in the headlines, with both parties seeking to frame the narrative in their favor ahead of ongoing public scrutiny and future electoral challenges.
