Following the victory in the Bihar Assembly elections, CM Nitish Kumar newly appointed cabinet met for the first time on Tuesday and said that, in addition to widespread employment and industrial development, it will give one crore jobs to young people over the next five years. The cabinet said that Bihar would be developed as a “back-end hub and global workplace over the next five years” under the new age economy.

In a social media message, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar also announced this. The goal we have set for the next five years (2025–2030) is to employ one crore young people. From the beginning, our top aim has been to ensure that an increasing number of young people in the State are employed by the government. In the tweet, Mr. Kumar stated, “We have given government jobs and employment to 50 lakh youth in the State between 2020-2025 under our saat nishchay (seven resolves).”

Work to support industries and generate the most jobs, he said, “started quickly after the new government was formed.” Building a new age economy based on technology and service-oriented innovations has been set as the objective in order to quicken the speed of growth in a changing Bihar. Leading Bihar-related entrepreneurs will be consulted for advice in order to accomplish this.

“Plans and policies will be formulated accordingly,” Mr. Kumar stated as he wrapped up his remarks. At the same time, a thorough action plan will be created with the help of important departments, well-known economists, and specialists in order to build Bihar into a worldwide back-end hub and workplace.

“A defense corridor, semiconductor manufacturing park, global capacity centers, mega tech city, and fitness city will be established to make Bihar a tech hub of eastern India,” declared State Chief Secretary Pratyaya Amrit following the cabinet meeting. “Dedicated committees are in place to achieve these goals,” Mr. Amrit added. “An additional committee has been established to develop plans for employment-focused initiatives in the start-up sector, which will guarantee livelihood opportunities for the State’s young, talented entrepreneurs.” Additionally, he stated that the cabinet had authorized an Artificial Intelligence (AI) mission that “aims to position Bihar as a leading State in the AI sector.”

A “total of 11 cities comprising 9 divisional towns alongside Sonepur and Sitamarhi will implement new Greenfield Township projects,” according to a decision made during the cabinet meeting. The Chief Secretary declared that “nine closed sugar mills will be reopened and further 25 new ones will be established” in the industrial sector. In cabinet talks, “widespread employment generation and industrial development were the key,” Mr. Amrit stated.

Samrat Choudhary, the Deputy Chief Minister and head of the Home Department, was among the newly appointed ministers who took over their departments earlier in the day and pledged to work for the advancement of the State. Speaking to the media, Mr. Choudhary discussed “security to girls in the State” and declared that the government will accept crime and criminals.

Seven leaders were expelled from the Opposition Congress party’s primary membership for six years on November 24 by the disciplinary committee of the Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee (BPCC), the party’s state unit, for anti-party activities and disciplinary infractions during the election, after party leaders expressed dissatisfaction with the party’s poor performance in the just concluded Assembly elections. The BPCC disciplinary committee chairman, Kapildeo Prasad Yadav, issued the expulsion order, citing the leaders’ repeated criticism of party decisions in print and on social media, including unfounded accusations of ticket selling and racketeering that “damaged party’s reputation.” “These leaders continued their indiscipline despite the centrally approved appointment of assembly observers,” the directive stated.

Among the politicians who were expelled were Aditya Paswan, Raj Kumar Sharma, Kundan Gupta, Raj Kumar Rajan, Ravi Golden, Kanchana Kumari, and Shakeelur Rahman, the former vice president of the BPCC. In the just finished Assembly elections, the Congress party ran for 61 of the 243 seats under the Opposition Mahagathbandhan (grand coalition), but only managed to secure six seats with 8.71% of the vote. The Congress party ran for 70 seats in the 2020 Assembly elections and won 19 of them. Recently, a number of State party leaders held a protest sit-in at the party headquarters, Sadaqat Ashram in Patna, where they chanted chants denouncing top State party leaders and blaming them for the party’s poor showing in the Assembly election.
