Strait of Hormuz Tensions Push Petrol Prices Today in India Amid Global Uncertainty

by Tamanna

New Delhi: Petrol prices today, March 27, remained unchanged in Delhi, providing relief to consumers amid ongoing volatility in global crude oil markets. According to market data, petrol in Delhi is priced at ₹94.77 per litre, unchanged from the previous day, while diesel prices have also remained stable.

Despite the general stability, private refiner Nayara Energy has increased petrol prices by ₹5 per litre and diesel by ₹3 per litre, as reported by PTI. State-run oil companies — Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL), and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL) — continue to maintain retail petrol prices at current levels, absorbing losses when crude rates rise.

Geopolitical Tensions in Strait of Hormuz Impact Petrol Prices Today in India

India imports nearly 88 per cent of its crude oil, much of which is transported via the Strait of Hormuz. Recent geopolitical tensions, including attacks by the US and Israel on Iranian targets, have heightened concerns over shipping routes. Iran’s warning to shipping vessels and the withdrawal of insurance coverage have disrupted tanker movements, indirectly influencing the dynamics of petrol prices today in India.

Experts say the stability in petrol prices today is a welcome respite for consumers, even as global crude markets remain unpredictable. Monitoring of crude supply, international geopolitical developments, and domestic refinery strategies will continue to play a key role in determining petrol prices today in the coming weeks.
