Trump Commends Modi as Strong Leader, Highlights Growing India-US Ties

by Tamanna

New Delhi: US President Donald Trump has praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a decisive leader, highlighting his confidence in the future of India-US ties. In a statement shared via the US Embassy in India, Trump said, “Our amazing relationship with India will be even stronger going forward. Prime Minister Modi and I are two people that get things done, something that cannot be said for most.”

Earlier on Tuesday, the two leaders engaged in a detailed discussion on the escalating conflict in the Middle East, now in its fourth week, which has disrupted global energy supply chains. Their conversation focused on ensuring that the Strait of Hormuz remains open and secure amid rising geopolitical tensions.

“Received a call from President Trump and had a useful exchange of views on the situation in West Asia. India supports de-escalation and restoration of peace at the earliest,” PM Modi wrote on X. He added, “Ensuring that the Strait of Hormuz remains open, secure, and accessible is essential for the whole world. We agreed to stay in touch regarding efforts towards peace and stability.”

US Embassy Confirms Strategic Dialogue

US Ambassador to India, Sergio Gor, confirmed that the discussion emphasized the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz and the ongoing commitment of both nations to coordinated engagement. Observers note that such high-level exchanges strengthen India-US ties by promoting dialogue on energy security and regional stability.

Trump Extends Pause on Strikes Against Iran

On Thursday, President Trump announced a 10-day extension on the pause for strikes targeting Iran’s energy infrastructure, pushing the deadline to April 6, 2026. In a post on Truth Social, he said the extension was requested by the Iranian government and described the negotiations as “going very well.”

Trump also criticized media reports suggesting otherwise, asserting that ongoing diplomatic talks are progressing positively. Analysts suggest that this move reflects a broader effort to maintain stability in West Asia, which directly influences India-US ties, especially regarding energy and strategic cooperation.

The renewed engagement between Washington and New Delhi highlights the commitment of both leaders to sustain a robust partnership. Experts emphasize that such interactions could further strengthen India-US ties in trade, defense, and geopolitical coordination, reaffirming India’s role as a key partner in the region
