Mumbai police have launched an investigation after Jan William Langford death was reported at the Trident Hotel, where the 76-year-old British broadcast engineer had been staying while covering IPL 2026. The incident has sent shockwaves through the cricket community and IPL staff.

Found Unresponsive in Hotel Room

Authorities said Jan William Langford had checked into the Trident Hotel on March 24. On March 29, he attended the IPL 2026 match between Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders at Wankhede Stadium. After the game, Langford returned to his room to rest.

The following morning, repeated calls from hotel staff went unanswered. Concerned employees used a master key to enter his room and found him lying unconscious on the floor.

Declared Dead, Investigation Underway

The hotel’s in-house doctor was called immediately and declared Jan William Langford death at the scene. His body was subsequently taken to Bombay Hospital for further examination. Mumbai Police confirmed that a case of accidental death (ADR) has been registered at Marine Drive Police Station. Initial investigations suggest no foul play.
