Taliban Fighters Parade Pakistani Soldiers’ Pants Amid Border Clash
A viral image from Afghanistan has sparked widespread mockery online after Taliban fighters were seen parading what they claimed were the pants of Pakistani soldiers. The image surfaced soon after fierce clashes erupted along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border, prompting both countries to agree on a 48-hour ceasefire.
According to officials, the temporary truce was initiated on Wednesday at 13:00 GMT following days of cross-border shelling between Taliban and Pakistani forces. The ceasefire came after escalating tension at the Spin Boldak–Chaman border, one of the most volatile stretches between the two nations.
Islamabad’s foreign ministry stated that the ceasefire was reached at Kabul’s request, while Afghan Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid countered that the truce followed “the insistence of the Pakistani side.”
Conflicting Claims Over Ceasefire Initiative
While both sides claimed to have initiated the truce, their statements reflected deep mistrust. Mujahid said that Afghan troops were ordered to respect the ceasefire “as long as the other side refrains from aggression.” Meanwhile, Pakistan maintained that it acted responsibly to prevent civilian casualties.
UN human rights chief Volker Turk welcomed the ceasefire, urging both nations to avoid further harm to civilians and pursue a “lasting peace.”
Wednesday’s clashes were among the deadliest since the Taliban regained power in 2021. The violence came after Islamabad accused the Taliban of sheltering militants from the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), a group behind a string of deadly attacks inside Pakistan. Kabul rejected the accusations and blamed Islamabad for “provocations and misinformation.”
Civilians Caught in the Crossfire
The humanitarian organization Emergency NGO, which runs a surgical center for war victims in Kabul, reported receiving five bodies and 35 injured individuals following the clashes. Afghan officials claimed that over a dozen civilians were killed and 100 injured in Pakistani attacks on Spin Boldak.
Pakistan, however, denied the allegations, stating that four of its civilians were wounded in Taliban attacks on Chaman district, located just across the frontier. The exchange of blame underscored the fragile nature of the ceasefire and the ongoing distrust between the neighboring countries.

After the ceasefire was announced, several videos and photos surfaced online showing Taliban fighters celebrating what they described as a victory over Pakistan. One particular image, now viral, showed Taliban members parading the pants of Pakistani soldiers allegedly abandoned during the clashes.
The bizarre image triggered a storm on social media, with users mocking Pakistan’s military under the phrase “caught with their pants down,” a phrase that became quite literal in this instance. Some videos also showed Taliban fighters displaying tanks and weapons said to have been seized from Pakistani troops.
Observers say these acts were aimed at boosting morale among Taliban fighters and projecting defiance against Pakistan, which has increasingly accused the Afghan government of harboring anti-Pakistan militants.
Tensions Continue Despite Ceasefire
Despite the short-term truce, analysts believe that relations between Kabul and Islamabad remain deeply strained. Pakistan continues to demand stronger action from Afghanistan against TTP militants allegedly operating from Afghan territory. The Taliban, on the other hand, accuses Pakistan of undermining Afghan sovereignty and supporting rival militant factions.
Experts warn that unless both nations engage in serious dialogue, such border flare-ups could become routine. The symbolism of the viral “pants parade” reflects not only a military embarrassment but also a breakdown of trust between two Islamic neighbors struggling to maintain peace.
