Cameron Green sidelined with side injury, ruled out of ODI series vs India. Marnus Labuschagne replaces him ahead of Ashes concerns for Australia.
Australia has suffered another severe injury blow: Cameron Green is out of the ODI series against India because of low-grade side pain. This might have big effects on the upcoming Ashes.
Green, who is 26 years old, was ruled out of the series, and Marnus Labuschagne was called up to take his place. After the Sheffield Shield match on Saturday night, Labuschagne will fly from Adelaide to Perth to join the Australian team before the first ODI on Sunday.
Green has just come back to competitive bowling after having back surgery last year. He skipped the T20I tour of New Zealand to play for Western Australia against New South Wales in the first Shield match in Perth last week. He was supposed to bowl eight overs in the match, but he only bowled four and got a wicket. Cricket Australia’s medical staff wouldn’t let him bowl on consecutive days because Western Australia couldn’t bat long enough in their first innings to give him a full day’s rest between four-over spells.

He probably wouldn’t bowl in the first two ODIs against India, but he was still working on his loading so that he could throw more overs in the third round of the Shield, which starts on October 28. He was planning to miss the third and final ODI in Sydney and the T20I series that followed so he could play in the third and fourth rounds of the Shield to be ready for the Ashes.
After bowling during practice this week, Green’s arm hurt, so he will have a brief rehabilitation period. He hopes to be able to play and bowl in Western Australia’s third Shield game against South Australia at the WACA in 11 days.
Australia is worried about the injury since they were counting on Green to be able to bowl freely in the Ashes. Australia is already worried about the health of Test captain Pat Cummins. Earlier this week, he indicated he was “less likely than likely” to play in the first Test against England, which starts on November 21 in Perth.
Beau Webster, Australia’s other Test allrounder, is also hurt right now. He missed the first two Shield matches for Tasmania because he injured his ankle while practicing two weeks ago. But it’s known that CA has been very careful with him, and he will be ready for Tasmania’s next Shield game on October 28.
Travis Head stated, “I’m sure he’s doing fine. He’s in good hands.” “We’ll get through it, like we do with everything else when guys are hurt.” Josh [Inglis] is in the same boat as us.
“I don’t think it will change the Ashes.” It’s more upsetting that he’s not here right now for the next three games, but he’ll get through it. I don’t think it’s that bad, so I’m probably just being careful for the next five weeks.
Green’s injury means that Australia’s ODI team is missing yet another top player. In Australia’s last ODI, which was against South Africa in August, he scored 118 runs without getting out in 55 balls.
Cummins, the captain who led Australia to victory in the World Cup, won’t be able to play in any of the India series. Josh Inglis, the wicketkeeper, will miss at least the first two ODIs while he heals from a calf strain.

Adam Zampa is not playing in the Perth ODI because he is staying home in northern New South Wales with his expecting wife. Alex Carey, who is usually in Australia’s first-choice ODI XI as a specialist bat and is also the backup wicketkeeper to Inglis, is also not playing in the first ODI in Perth. Instead, he is focusing on the Shield match between South Australia and Queensland in Adelaide as part of his Ashes preparation.
After scoring 159 runs in his last five domestic innings, Labuschagne has been brought back into the ODI team. Labuschagne was taken from the ODI team before the series against India because he hadn’t done well in the last year. But since he scored 130 off 118 against Victoria and 105 off 91 against Tasmania, he has been the best performer in the One-Day Cup for Queensland.
