CM Yogi directs urgent upgrades to road infrastructure
CM Yogi Urges Speedy 4-Lane Road Connectivity Across UP
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has issued a strong directive to fast-track the state’s road infrastructure development. He emphasized connecting all district headquarters with four-lane roads and ensuring that every block headquarters is linked by at least two-lane roads. The goal, according to the CM, is to provide faster, safer, and more efficient travel across the state while reinforcing administrative responsiveness.
During a high-level review meeting, CM Yogi underlined that road safety and connectivity reflect the sensitivity and efficiency of the administration, not just a single department’s responsibility. He urged all concerned departments to act in coordination and identify accident-prone zones—commonly known as black spots—for immediate rectification.
Road Safety as a Governance Priority
Highlighting that road safety is integral to public welfare, CM Yogi called for urgent, inter-departmental collaboration. He stressed the need to approach road safety as a cross-sectoral concern rather than limiting it to the Public Works Department (PWD).
Officials have been instructed to:
- Create district-level black spot lists.
- Implement urgent corrective measures using available funds.
- Coordinate with traffic police, transport, and health departments.
Moreover, departments are now required to submit monthly progress reports on black spot resolution and road widening efforts to the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO).
Infrastructure Push Aligned with Gati Shakti Mission
This move aligns with the Centre’s Gati Shakti National Master Plan, aiming for integrated infrastructure development. CM Yogi noted that better road networks are critical for Uttar Pradesh’s economic and social growth. With multiple industrial and logistics parks coming up, four-lane connectivity will ensure smoother cargo and commuter movement.
The state government has already prioritized:
- Widening major state highways.
- Upgrading rural and inter-block roads.
- Digitally tracking road construction timelines through geo-tagged updates.
As per officials, priority districts include those with ongoing expressway projects or significant industrial activity, such as Lucknow, Kanpur, Varanasi, Prayagraj, and Noida.
Focus on Black Spot Rectification
One of the most urgent directives from CM Yogi was related to black spots—locations prone to frequent accidents. According to state transport data, over 3,000 black spots exist across Uttar Pradesh, many of which have led to fatal accidents in recent years.
The Chief Minister said these areas must be fixed with:
- Better lighting and signage.
- Speed-reducing designs like rumble strips.
- Crash barriers and underpasses, where needed.
Departments must use local engineering colleges for audits and innovation, ensuring faster identification and resolution of risk areas.
A Step Toward Safer, Smarter Roads
By focusing on both infrastructure development and public safety, the UP government aims to set a benchmark in inclusive governance. CM Yogi’s push signals a clear message: connectivity is not just about roads—it’s about saving lives and empowering citizens.
With proper coordination, funding, and accountability, Uttar Pradesh could witness a major transformation in how people travel and interact with public infrastructure.
