A bus fire near Jaisalmer kills 20 and injures many. CM visits victims, PM Modi announces ₹2 lakh ex-gratia for deceased, ₹50,000 for the injured.
An AC sleeper bus caught fire in Rajasthan, near Jaisalmer, killing 20 people and injuring many others. the event happened on the Jaisalmer-Jodhpur route. Reports say that 19 people died in the bus fire, and one person died from their burn injuries while they were being treated. Pratappuri, the MLA for Pokaran, told the press that 20 persons died in the event, which is thought to have been triggered by a short circuit.
At the time of the catastrophe, there were more than 50 persons on board. 15 people on board were hurt, and many of them have burns that cover up to 70% of their bodies. The injured have been taken to Mahatma Gandhi Hospital in Jodhpur for care. Officials added that the victims’ bodies were extensively burned and DNA testing will be used to confirm their identities. Pratap Singh, the Jaisalmer local Collector, has asked the relatives of missing passengers to get in touch with the local government.

In the evening, Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma went to the site of the accident and then went to the hospital in Jodhpur to see the injured. He told officials to make sure that all the victims got the right medical attention.
President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President C P Radhakrishnan, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have all sent their condolences for the deaths of many people. The President said in a tweet on social media that it was very sad to hear that many people died in the bus fire. She sent her sincere sympathies to the relatives of the dead and hoped for the quick recovery of the injured. Radhakrishnan, the Vice President, also said he was deeply sorry about the accident and wished for the quick recovery of the injured.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he was deeply sorry about the tragedy and hoped the injured would get better quickly. The Central Government has said that they will give ₹2 lakh to the families of the dead and ₹50,000 to the injured.
