New cybercrime alert: Scammers impersonate police to steal personal data. Rajasthan Police urges citizens to stay calm and report suspicious calls.
The CyberCrime Branch of the Rajasthan Police has issued an urgent warning regarding a new cyber fraud method in which criminals pose as police personnel and threaten residents under the guise of a significant criminal incidence, such as the car bomb in Delhi on November 10.
The advise, which is being directed by DGP Rajiv Kumar Sharma, attempts to avert public panic and increase public knowledge. Scammers call victims and say that their Aadhaar or mobile number is connected to the purported criminal case, according to DIG (Cybercrime) Vikas Sharma. Under the pretense of verification, they threaten targets, offer to “arrange meetings” with top officers, and use video conferences to demand money or sensitive information. These could consist of bank and UPI information as well as personal data.

Police have urged people to remain composed, refrain from clicking on dubious links or communications, and refrain from disclosing sensitive information, including banking, Aadhaar, and personal information, to anyone acting as a police official.
People should inform the nearest police station, dial 112, or contact the Cyber Helpdesk (9256001930 / 9257510100) right away if they are contacted by such scammers. Financial fraud victims can also report unusual transactions to their bank and file a complaint at cybercrime.gov.in or call the National Cyber Helpline (1930).
