Tarn Taran Launches Second Phase of Anti-Drug Awareness Campaign Led by Governor Kataria

Second phase of intensive anti-drug awareness campaign launched in border districts to promote public participation

Tarn Taran : Punjab Governor and Administrator of Chandigarh, Gulab Chand Kataria, on Sunday inaugurated a four-day anti-drug padyatra from Tarn Taran, marking the launch of the second phase of the state’s intensive anti-drug awareness campaign in border districts.

Before the march, the Governor visited Darbar Sahib, Tarn Taran, offering prayers for the welfare and prosperity of the state.

The padyatra, stretching from Shri Guru Harkrishan Public School to the Police Lines in Tarn Taran, saw participation from thousands of students, NGOs, and eminent personalities from across Punjab. Accompanied by patriotic songs and band performances, the march conveyed a strong message for a drug-free Punjab and the restoration of its vibrant spirit.

Addressing the participants, Governor Kataria stated that the second phase of the anti-drug campaign will cover border districts including Tarn Taran, Ferozepur, and Fazilka, aiming to mobilise public participation and spread awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse. He noted that the campaign is being organised in collaboration with the Punjab Red Cross Society.

Governor Kataria Calls for Multi-Pronged Approach to Fight Drug Abuse in Tarn Taran Punjab

The Governor emphasised that combating drugs requires a multi-pronged approach, combining strict law enforcement, continuous public awareness, rehabilitation of affected individuals, and the creation of employment opportunities for youth. He urged all sections of society, including social, religious, political, and educational institutions, as well as NGOs, to actively join the movement and make it a people-driven initiative.

“Drug abuse has no place on the sacred land of the Gurus. This is not the Governor’s campaign alone—it belongs to the people,” he said. He further stressed that individuals affected by drug abuse should be supported with compassion, and skill development and employment opportunities are crucial to tackling the menace effectively.

Prominent attendees at the event included Principal Secretary to the Governor Vivek Pratap Singh, Punjab Red Cross Society Secretary Shivdular Singh, Deputy Commissioner Tarn Taran Rahul, SSP Surender Lamba, Vice-Chancellors of various universities, and other dignitaries.
