Punjab to Hold Special Assembly Session on Religious Offense Law on April 13

Religious Offense Law Amendments to Strengthen Protection of Sacred Scriptures

Punjab : Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann announced that a special session of the Punjab Legislative Assembly will be held on April 13 to introduce stricter provisions under the Religious Offense Law. The session aims to amend the Jagat Jyoti Shri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar Act, 2008, by adding stronger penalties for acts insulting religion.

Speaking about the session, CM Mann said, “The Religious Offense Law will be strengthened to protect religious sentiments and ensure respect for sacred texts. Our government is committed to upholding faith and harmony in Punjab.”

Religious Offense Law to Be Amended for Stricter Penalties Against Religious Insults

The upcoming session will focus on reviewing the current provisions and proposing amendments to ensure the Religious Offense Law imposes effective punishment for offenses against revered religious scriptures. Officials emphasized that these amendments will deter acts that disrespect religious beliefs.

“The Religious Offense Law is crucial for safeguarding cultural and religious values. This special assembly session reflects our commitment to protecting the dignity of faith while maintaining communal harmony,” added CM Mann.
