Punjab Police Conduct 689 Raids on Day 16 of ‘Gangstran Te Vaar’; 232 Arrested

Campaign under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann targets gangsters and drug networks, seizing weapons and narcotics while promoting de-addiction initiatives.

Chandigarh – As the ‘Gangstran Te Vaar’ campaign, launched under the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, enters its 16th day, the Punjab Police carried out 689 raids on Wednesday targeting locations linked to gangster associates across the state.

The campaign, initiated by DGP Punjab Gaurav Yadav on 20 January 2026, aims to make Punjab a gangster-free state. Operating in coordination with the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF), police teams have conducted continuous special operations in all districts.

On Day 16, 232 individuals were arrested, and two sharp-edged weapons were recovered, bringing the total number of arrests to 4,628 since the launch of the campaign. In addition, preventive action was taken against 153 people, while 352 individuals were verified and released after questioning. Punjab Police also apprehended 12 proclaimed offenders (POs) during the operations.

Punjab Police : 135 Drug Smugglers Arrested in Punjab Anti-Drug Drive

Meanwhile, the ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ anti-drug campaign, now in its 340th day, continued with the arrest of 135 drug smugglers on Wednesday. Authorities seized 8.1 kg of heroin, 2 kg of opium, 804 intoxicant tablets/capsules, and Rs 10,750 in drug money. With these operations, the total number of drug-related arrests has reached 47,634 in 340 days.

As part of the de-addiction drive, 23 individuals were persuaded to undergo rehabilitation and treatment.
