Punjab Launches ₹400 Cr Plan to Boost Govt School Education
Punjab Rolls Out ₹400 Crore Plan to Transform Government School Education
The Punjab government has launched an ambitious ₹400 crore plan to raise the quality of education in state-run schools. School Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains announced a series of steps under the campaign, including computer lab renovation, international teacher training, and infrastructure upgrades.
The new campaign aims to bring government schools on par with international standards. Bains stated, “Our policies are not for show-off but are result-oriented. Punjab’s government schools are gaining global recognition because of consistent reforms.”
Efforts to Upgrade Technology and Training
Addressing school heads at the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) in Sangrur, the minister emphasized collaborative decision-making. Under the “Shikshak Se Samvad” program, he gathered feedback and suggestions from teachers to ensure reforms are practical and inclusive.
A key highlight is the ₹400 crore allocation for revamping computer labs across Punjab’s government schools. In addition, interactive smart panels are being installed to make learning more engaging and modern.
To further enhance teaching standards, Bains announced that a third batch of teachers will soon be sent abroad for training. These sessions will take place in reputed institutes in Singapore, Finland, and Ahmedabad. The selection will be strictly merit-based, ensuring transparency and quality.
New Appointments and Promotions in Education Sector
The Punjab Education Department is also prioritizing human resource development. The minister revealed that 400 new principals will be appointed across schools, and several lecturers are being promoted.
Moreover, seating and sanitation facilities are being improved across campuses to create a comfortable learning environment. Bains reiterated that education remains the top priority for the Bhagwant Mann-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government.
Academic Results Show Promising Growth
Highlighting recent student achievements, Bains said that 845 government school students have cleared the NEET 2024, and 265 students succeeded in the JEE Mains. These results underscore the department’s ongoing efforts to promote academic excellence.
Additionally, Punjab has shown remarkable improvement in the National Achievement Survey (NAS) 2024, strengthening its national standing in the education sector.
Signature School Initiatives and Roadmap Ahead
The minister also listed major initiatives like ‘School of Eminence’, ‘School of Happiness’, and ‘School of Brilliance’. These programs are designed to improve academic outcomes, emotional well-being, and holistic development of students.
Bains praised teachers for their dedication and described the “Samvaad with Teachers” initiative as a powerful tool. “We are building a platform where teachers are heard and their input shapes education policy,” he said.
These efforts align with the broader AAP model of governance that focuses on education, transparency, and merit-driven reforms.
