Punjab Jail Minister Dr. Ravjot Singh addressed a press conference highlighting the state government’s ongoing efforts to improve prison security and ensure the welfare of inmates across Punjab. A key focus of the initiatives is the overall modernization of jails, as Punjab currently has 25 prisons, with a high-security jail under construction in Ludhiana. Speaking on surveillance measures, Dr. Ravjot Singh said that CCTV cameras and other advanced security systems have been installed across prisons to ensure transparency and strict monitoring. Punjab Jail Security and Prisoner Welfare System to Use Trained Dogs for Drug Detection in Prisons
The minister also announced that specially trained dogs will soon be deployed in jails to detect narcotics and control drug-related activities. This move is part of the broader strategy under the Punjab jail security and prisoner welfare system to make prisons drug-free and more disciplined environments.
Highlighting welfare measures, Ravjot Singh stated that special arrangements have been made for different categories of inmates, including women and pregnant prisoners, ensuring proper care and humane treatment.
