Punjab Ministers Lead Relief Efforts in Flood-Hit Areas
The Punjab Government has intensified its efforts to support flood-affected families across the state. Cabinet ministers, local administrators, and volunteers are working around the clock under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.
Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema reaffirmed the government’s commitment: “We are working day and night to serve the people. No family will be left without support, and full compensation will be provided for losses.”
Cabinet Minister Harjot Singh Bains echoed the same message, assuring residents that the administration will reach the doorsteps of all affected households to ensure timely assistance.
Compensation, Donations, and Relief Funds
Social Security, Women, and Child Development Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur visited nearly 20 affected villages in Fazilka district, including Ram Singh Bhaini. She assured farmers that compensation would also extend to uncultivated lands, with the Girdawari (crop loss survey) already underway.
In a show of solidarity, Dr. Kaur personally donated ₹2 lakh to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. She emphasized that road repair and transport restoration are already in progress to reconnect villages cut off during the floods.
Meanwhile, Harjot Singh Bains highlighted that even places of worship were impacted, noting that the building of Baba Gurditta Ji Gurdwara in Kiratpur Sahib collapsed due to heavy rain. He confirmed that restoration work, including laying concrete pillars and building a large parking facility, has already begun after the Ardas ceremony.
Preventing Disease and Ensuring Public Safety
Cabinet Minister Barinder Kumar Goyal visited the flood-hit Ghaggar river stretch in Lehragaga, Sangrur, to monitor relief operations. He stressed the urgent need to contain waterborne diseases in the aftermath of floods.
Special measures are being rolled out across vulnerable regions, including medical check-ups, fogging operations, and spraying on stagnant water. Officials emphasized that public health remains a top priority to prevent outbreaks of malaria, dengue, and diarrhea.
Pathankot Villages Undergoing Massive Cleanliness Drive
In one of the most visible recovery efforts, a major cleanliness campaign has been launched in 25 flood-affected villages of Pathankot. The drive is being supervised by Cabinet Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak.
Villages including Tas, Makhanpur, Barmal Jattan, Akhwana, Manjiri Jattan, Sekhupur Manjiri, Farwal, Bamiyal, and Khudaipur saw teams removing debris, silt, and waste. Streets were swept, while fogging and anti-mosquito spraying were carried out to safeguard public health.
Residents were also motivated to participate in the drive, underscoring the importance of collective community action in restoring normalcy.
United Response to Rebuild Punjab
The government has assured people that the rehabilitation process will continue until all villages are fully restored. Ministers stressed that the recovery effort is not just about cleaning and compensation, but also about reviving social, religious, and community life.
Harpal Singh Cheema urged citizens to remain patient and supportive during this phase. “We will stand by our people till life returns to normal. Together, Punjab will overcome this disaster.”
