Punjab steps up healthcare measures for flood victims
The Punjab government has intensified health services for people affected by the recent floods, ensuring round-the-clock medical support in relief camps and villages. Cabinet Minister Dr. Balbir Singh confirmed that medical teams and doctors across the state are working continuously to provide care, vaccinations, and preventive health measures to flood-hit families.
Dr. Singh emphasized that the government’s priority is to protect vulnerable populations from disease outbreaks in inundated regions. He added that emergency healthcare systems have been mobilized in collaboration with local hospitals and rural health centers.
Doctors provide continuous support in relief camps
Flood-affected residents, many of whom have lost their homes or farmland, are receiving consistent medical assistance. Mobile health units and special medical teams have been deployed to visit temporary shelters and marooned villages.
According to Dr. Singh, doctors are providing check-ups, distributing essential medicines, and ensuring timely treatment of water-borne diseases. “Our doctors are working selflessly in these challenging conditions. They are committed to ensuring that no flood victim is left without care,” he said.
Additionally, special attention is being given to children, pregnant women, and the elderly, who are more vulnerable to infections during natural disasters. Vaccination drives and preventive treatments for malaria, dengue, and diarrheal diseases are also being carried out.
Preventive healthcare and sanitation drives
The health department has launched preventive health measures to combat the risk of epidemics in flood-hit areas. Teams are conducting fever surveys, water testing, chlorination of wells, and fumigation drives to check the spread of mosquito-borne diseases.
Dr. Singh highlighted that the government is working closely with local panchayats to maintain hygiene in relief camps. Sanitation teams are distributing sanitary kits, clean drinking water, and mosquito nets to flood-affected families. Medical relief camps are also ensuring access to safe childbirth facilities and basic nutritional care for children.
Government’s long-term healthcare response
While immediate relief remains the focus, the Punjab government is also preparing a long-term plan to restore healthcare infrastructure in flood-affected districts. Dr. Singh stated that the government will ensure compensation and rehabilitation for families who have lost loved ones or livelihoods due to floods.
He assured residents that additional medical staff would be recruited where necessary and that the government will keep strengthening rural health networks. “We are committed to standing with the people in this crisis. Punjab’s doctors will continue their dedicated service until normalcy is fully restored,” Dr. Singh added.
