Chandigarh – A delegation from the National Defence College (NDC), New Delhi, currently on a study tour of Punjab, met with Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Monday. During the interaction, the CM highlighted Punjab’s unparalleled contributions to India’s unity and sovereignty, its rich legacy of valour, communal harmony, and its enduring role as both the “Sword Arm” and “Food Bowl” of the nation.
Welcoming the delegation, Bhagwant Mann said, “Punjab has produced distinguished military leaders and brave soldiers who have always made supreme sacrifices for the country.” He expressed his pleasure that the NDC is conducting its visit from February 2 to 6, describing the socio-political study tour as an opportunity to understand Punjab’s social, economic, political, and cultural landscape.
Bhagwant Mann emphasized the state’s historical and cultural significance, noting, “Punjab is the land of great Gurus, saints, seers, prophets, and martyrs, as well as hardworking and brave people.” He praised the youth for guarding the borders and the farmers for ensuring food security, adding that Punjab contributes 40 percent of the nation’s food grains, earning it the title of India’s “Food Bowl and Sword Arm.”

The Bhagwant Mann also underlined Punjab’s rich tradition of peace and communal harmony, saying, “Despite being a border state, Punjab has never been divided along sectarian lines. Our people have always set examples of unity during crises.” He highlighted Amritsar as a symbol of coexistence, home to Sri Harmandir Sahib, Durgiana Mandir, Bhagwan Valmiki Tirath Sthal, Jallianwala Bagh, and other sacred sites.
Describing the study tour, Bhagwant Mann noted, “This week-long course helps officers gain deep insights into India’s social, political, economic, cultural, and religious aspects, while also providing perspectives on governance, administration, and law and order challenges at both state and village levels.”
The delegation comprises 16 officers, including five foreign officers from Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Nepal. The remaining 11 officers are Indian, with representation from the Army (5), Navy (2), Air Force (2), AFHQCS (1), and DoLR (1). Civil officers from IAS, IPS, IRS, IFS, Coast Guard, and DRDO are also part of the group.
The course covers strategic knowledge about India, economic security, science and technology, global issues, international security environment, strategic aspects of neighbouring countries, and national security strategies and structures. On the occasion, CM Mann felicitated the visiting delegation and wished them a comfortable and insightful stay in Punjab.
