Punjab Finance Minister Advocate Harpal Singh Cheema on Monday handed over appointment letters to 16 newly recruited clerks, marking a key step in strengthening the state’s financial administration. The appointments were made for the Directorate of Treasury and Accounts Branch, Pension, and New Pension Scheme.
Second or Third Job Offer for Many Recruits
A striking feature of the recruitment drive is that many of the new clerks had already received jobs earlier under the current Punjab government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.
For instance, Sandeep Kaur, appointed as a clerk in the department, had earlier secured jobs in the police and the cooperative bank. Similarly, Jeevan Singh, Happy Kumar, Sahil Syag, Avatar Singh, and Harpreet Singh confirmed that this was their second appointment in state services.
The recruits thanked Chief Minister Mann for creating multiple opportunities for the state’s youth. They said the government’s initiatives are helping educated young people find stable employment in Punjab rather than looking outside the state.
Finance Minister Congratulates New Recruits
Addressing the ceremony at Chandigarh, Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema congratulated the new clerks and welcomed them into the state’s service. He stressed the vital role of clerks in ensuring smooth operations in government offices.
“Clerks are the fundamental basis of office work. Their efficiency will play a crucial role in the functioning of the department,” Cheema said. He urged the new recruits to serve with honesty, discipline, and dedication.
The minister added that strengthening the clerical workforce in the Treasury and Accounts department would not only improve internal administration but also ensure better service delivery to the public.
Officials Present at the Ceremony
The ceremony was attended by senior officials, including Additional Chief Secretary Finance Alok Shekhar, Director Treasury Arvind Kumar, and Additional Director Treasury Simarjeet Kaur. They welcomed the recruits and assured full support in helping them adapt to their roles.
The event was part of the government’s wider initiative to expand job opportunities and strengthen the state’s administrative backbone. According to officials, the recruitment drive reflects the government’s ongoing commitment to filling vacancies in various departments while ensuring transparency and merit-based selection.
Punjab Government’s Push for Employment
Under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s leadership, the Punjab government has been actively creating new job opportunities for youth across multiple departments. Over the past two years, several recruitment drives have been launched in the police, education, and finance sectors.
Officials say that such efforts aim to tackle unemployment while also addressing gaps in the state’s administration. The fact that several recruits at Monday’s ceremony were receiving their second or third government job is being seen as an indicator of the scale of opportunities created in recent months.
Finance Minister Cheema highlighted that the government’s employment policies are part of a broader push to restore faith among young people in state institutions. “We want Punjab’s youth to feel that their future is secure here. With honesty and transparency, we will continue to expand opportunities,” he said.
