AAP MP Kang Attacks Govt’s ‘Hollow Claims’ in Finance Bill 2026 Debate

AAP MP Flags Inflation, Farmer Distress, Youth Unemployment, and Policy Gaps in Parliament

Chandigarh : Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Member of Parliament Malvinder Singh Kang launched a sharp attack on the Union Government during discussions on the Finance Bill 2026, alleging that the Centre’s claims of economic growth are far removed from ground realities.

Speaking in Parliament, Kang said that the government has presented an overly optimistic picture in the Finance Bill 2026, while the common man continues to struggle with rising inflation and declining purchasing power. He highlighted that the Indian Rupee has weakened significantly, crossing the 90 mark against the US Dollar, while fuel prices have surged beyond ₹100 per litre.

“The reality of the Finance Bill 2026 is that inflation is at alarming levels and the promises made to the public remain unfulfilled,” Kang said. He added that the economic burden on ordinary citizens has increased over the past decade despite repeated assurances of relief.

Finance Bill 2026 Overlooks Farmers’ Growing Financial Crisis

Focusing on farmers, Kang said the promise of doubling farmers’ income has failed completely. “Instead of income doubling, input costs such as fertilizers, seeds, and pesticides have doubled or even tripled,” he stated. He emphasized that the Finance Bill 2026 does not offer any substantial relief to the farming community, which continues to face deep financial distress.

Kang also questioned the government’s claim of India being among the world’s top five economies. “While such claims are highlighted, India’s per capita income ranking has slipped to 142, indicating rising inequality and poverty,” he said.

Alleging corporate favoritism, Kang claimed that loans worth over ₹16 lakh crore of big corporates have been written off, while farmers continue to struggle for Minimum Support Price (MSP) guarantees. “This shows where the government’s priorities lie,” he remarked.

Agniveer Scheme Sparks Concern Over Youth Employment

Criticizing employment policies, Kang termed the Agniveer scheme as detrimental to youth. He said that the scheme has created uncertainty among young aspirants and weakened long-term employment prospects. “The concerns raised in the Finance Bill 2026 debate clearly reflect growing frustration among youth,” he added.

On international trade, Kang raised concerns over the India–US trade discussions, warning that such agreements could harm Indian farmers, especially those involved in dairy, apple cultivation, and maize production. He said these policies expose farmers to unfair global competition rather than protecting their interests.

Kang also demanded the reopening of the Wagah border trade route, stating that it could significantly benefit farmers across North India. “While trade through Mumbai–Karachi routes benefits corporates, the Amritsar–Lahore route remains shut, depriving farmers of major economic opportunities,” he said.

He further criticized the weakening of welfare schemes like MGNREGA, calling it a lifeline for rural workers that is being diluted. Kang also pointed out the absence of any concrete steps toward restoring the Old Pension Scheme (OPS), highlighting concerns over social security.

Summing up his remarks on the Finance Bill 2026, Kang said, “Scrapping MGNREGA is an attack on labourers, the Agniveer scheme is an attack on youth, and trade policies are an attack on farmers. The country cannot move forward on hollow claims. Real development will only happen when farmers, youth, and workers are secured and empowered
