Punjab to fill 5,000+ Anganwadi Vacancies by September 30, 2025: A landmark step in Social Welfare
Chandigarh, August 1, 2025:
In a significant move to empower local governance and strengthen early childhood care services, the Punjab Government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, has announced the hiring of over 5,000 Anganwadi Workers and Helpers by September 30, 2025.
Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur made the announcement. This marks a change in how Punjab approaches welfare and social justice. For the first time in the state’s history, the government will offer job opportunities to the dependents of Anganwadi workers or helpers who have become permanently disabled or unfit for work due to serious illness. This initiative aims to honor the service of frontline workers who have committed their lives to community welfare.
Dr. Baljit Kaur stressed that this reform goes beyond just hiring. It shows the Punjab Government’s dedication to a people-focused and inclusive administrative model. The goal is to ensure that no family lacks support due to unexpected health challenges faced during public service.
The government plans to fill the vacancies through a clear and timely process. This will ensure that Anganwadi centers across the state continue to operate smoothly. This move also supports Punjab’s alignment with national goals on early childhood development and women’s empowerment.
A 2022 World Bank report states that effective Anganwadi services can improve child health outcomes by up to 15%. This highlights the long-term benefits of this hiring push. Experts believe Punjab could set an example for other states in establishing social protection for local public workers.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s leadership, grounded in the Aam Aadmi Party’s ideals of local governance and public accountability, has ushered in many beneficial reforms in the state. This policy reinforces his commitment to fairness and respect for everyone, especially women working in informal care jobs.
