Chandigarh, July 17 – In a significant step to accelerate Punjab’s economic growth, the state government has announced the formation of industry-specific committees aimed at providing expert guidance for shaping a new industrial policy.
The announcement was made by Cabinet Minister Sanjeev Arora, who emphasized the government’s commitment to collaborative policymaking. These committees will include representatives from various industrial sectors and are tasked with sharing practical suggestions to strengthen Punjab’s industrial ecosystem.
“The committees will engage in active consultation and deliver sector-specific insights to the Punjab Government,” said Sanjeev Arora.
This initiative is a follow-up to the Punjab Industrial and Business Development Policy 2022, which, despite its focus on improving ease of doing business, did not attract the level of investment the state had anticipated. The new approach—built around targeted industry consultation—aims to address that shortfall with sharper, more practical strategies.
Each committee is expected to submit its recommendations within 45 days, paving the way for a potentially revised policy that could include tailored incentives, simplified processes, and infrastructure upgrades across key sectors such as manufacturing, textiles, IT, agri-business, and renewable energy.
The initiative reflects the broader economic vision of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, which has placed a strong emphasis on job creation, MSME growth, and investment facilitation in the state.
The government is also planning to integrate this feedback into the next phase of economic reforms, ensuring that Punjab becomes a more attractive destination for both domestic and global investors.
