Bangladeshi Man Posing as Trans Woman in Bhopal Faces Deportation

A Hidden Identity Uncovered in Bhopal

Bhopal: In a startling revelation, Bhopal police have detained a Bangladeshi national who had been living in India for nearly two decades while posing as a transgender woman. The man, identified as Abdul Kalam, had assumed the name Neha Kinnar to conceal his true identity and nationality.

According to officials, Kalam entered India illegally at the age of 17 and managed to integrate into society by forging official documents, including an Aadhaar card and voter ID. These papers were made in the name of Neha Kinnar, a fabricated identity that helped him avoid detection for years.

Authorities say Kalam initially lived in Maharashtra before relocating to Bhopal’s Mangalwara and Budhwara areas. While posing as a member of the transgender community, he reportedly gained acceptance in the local social fabric.

Tip-Off Triggers Police Action

The case came to light after the local police intelligence unit received a tip-off about a foreign national living under a false identity. Acting swiftly, Talaiya police detained Kalam about a week ago for questioning.

“She was living here under a false identity. Our inquiry revealed that she is originally from Bangladesh,” said an investigating officer.

Further checks unearthed that Kalam had previously been booked in 2019 at MP Nagar police station. While no formal deportation orders have yet been issued, police officials confirmed that preparations are underway pending a complete investigation.

Authorities are also looking into possible links between Kalam’s long-term stay and criminal activities. Investigators are currently verifying details about his past movements and connections.

Citywide Crackdown on Illegal Residents

Bhopal Police Commissioner has confirmed that a broader verification drive is now active across the city. The aim is to identify foreign nationals who may be staying in India without legal documentation.

The commissioner urged the public to remain alert and report any suspicious individuals using forged identity documents. Civic cooperation, he stressed, is crucial in curbing the use of fake IDs and maintaining national security.

“This case highlights the loopholes in the document verification process and the importance of vigilance in safeguarding our borders,” said another senior police official.

A Broader Security Concern

This incident raises serious questions about how individuals are able to enter India illegally and survive for years using fabricated identities. The transgender community, known for its marginalization, often provides a social cover that can be misused by outsiders.

Law enforcement agencies are now reviewing how Kalam managed to obtain Indian ID documents. Aadhaar enrollment, voter registration, and address verification processes are under scrutiny following this case.

Moreover, the case has drawn attention to the vulnerability of border security and document issuance procedures, especially in urban settlements with large migrant populations.
