Wasim Akram, a YouTuber from Haryana, arrested for alleged espionage for Pakistan’s ISI. Accused of sharing sensitive info; family denies claims.

A Palwal district YouTuber has been arrested by Haryana Police for allegedly giving Pakistan’s ISI , intelligence agency vital information. Suspected to have maintained contact with ISI handlers for almost four years, the accused is Wasim Akram of Kot village in Hathin subdivision.

Following leads from another suspect, Taufiq of Alimev village, who was arrested on September 26 on similar accusations, the Palwal Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) made the arrest, according to officials. Since both guys may have been involved in a larger espionage network, they are currently being investigated.

How the Connection Was Created : 

Investigators say that in 2021, while applying for a visa, Akram contacted Pakistani officials. He reportedly met Danish, a Pakistani High Commission employee, during this process. Police say that Akram thereafter used internet-based calling tools like WhatsApp to stay in touch with handlers.

Akram’s cell phone, which had WhatsApp conversations connected to the case, was found by police during searches. Forensic experts are helping to recover a number of deleted conversations in order to ascertain the type of information that was sent. The evidence, according to officials, will be crucial in determining the extent of the spying.

In Delhi, he is also charged with providing a SIM card, which authorities say allowed him to communicate with Pakistani connections even more. According to police, Akram may have given ISI agents vital information via these links.

Scrutinizing the Evidence

Charges Are Denied by Family : 

Akram’s family has denied the accusations, claiming that he never visited Pakistan and that his sole involvement was in managing a YouTube channel about Mewat’s history and culture and helping out at his father’s hospital. But according to police, digital data and interrogation results point to close cross-border ties.

Varun Singla, the superintendent of police, has instructed the district crime branch to investigate the matter further. Additionally, the local police and the Intelligence Bureau are collaborating. As the investigation deepens, officials said further arrests may be made.

Due to their bookings under national security and sedition legislation, Akram and Taufiq are still being held by the police to be questioned.
