Haryana boosts healthcare with 2,710 MBBS seats, more hospitals, and improved doctor-patient ratio, says Health Minister Aarti Singh Rao.

According to Haryana Health Minister Aarti Singh Rao, the State Government is aggressively attempting to increase MBBS seats by establishing new medical colleges in both the public and private sectors in order to enhance the doctor-population ratio. According to her, Haryana now has 2,710 MBBS seats, compared to just 700 in 2014.

During the current Haryana Vidhan Sabha Winter Session, the Health Minister was responding to a query posed by a member. She also told the House that the doctor-to-population ratio was one doctor for every 1,000 people, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare’s 2018 Lok Sabha response. According to the Haryana Medical Council’s data from December 16, 2025, the state now has one doctor for every 1,225 residents when allopathic physicians are taken into account. The current ratio rises to one doctor per 819 when registered Ayurvedic, Unani, and Homeopathic (AUH) practitioners are also taken into account.

Ms. Rao reaffirmed the government’s efforts, saying that the state is constantly developing its medical education infrastructure in both the public and private sectors to improve MBBS intake and that hiring more doctors is still a top priority.

She also emphasized that the Indian Public Health Standards and the National Health Policy 2017 provide standards for the accessibility of healthcare services, especially with regard to the ratio of hospital beds to population. According to these guidelines, there should be at least one hospital bed per 1,000 people in the government health and medical education sectors combined, and two beds per 1,000 people in private and ESIC institutions.

In response to a follow-up inquiry, the Health Minister stated that there are currently 74 District Civil Hospitals and Sub-Divisional Hospitals, up from 56 in 2014. In a similar vein, there are now 122 Community Health Centers (CHCs), up from 109 in 2014.
