CM Nayab Singh Saini defends Haryana Govt, dismisses vote theft allegations, and highlights transparency in BPL card issuance.

According to Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, the opposition has been left feeling uneasy following the people’s resounding rejection. He claimed that out of sheer despair, opposition leaders are now turning to accusations like “vote theft” after losing the public’s trust and their political legitimacy.

The chief minister claimed that the people’s mandate is unambiguous, unwavering, and a complete rejection of the Congress’s previous administration and policies. He claimed that the opposition’s frustration over this rejection has led them to make reckless and baseless claims.On Friday, during Question Hour on the second day of the Haryana Vidhan Sabha’s Winter Session, the Chief Minister addressed a query posed by MLA BB Batra about the quantity of BPL cards.

Saini said that he had previously addressed this issue in-depth in the House during the previous session. He clarified that if a person was below the poverty line, the government had instituted a transparent procedure that required them to self-report their financial situation and complete the necessary paperwork. The income ceiling was Rs. 1.20 lakh under previous regimes, he noted, but it was raised to Rs. 1.80 lakh under the current government, after which many applied for BPL status.

According to the Chief Minister, he had made it quite evident to the House at the time that ineligible names would be eliminated and that verification would be done following the polls. He questioned how this could be called a “scandal,” challenging the opposition’s claims.

Citing data cited by MLA B.B. Batra, the Chief Minister stated that the eight lakh card assertion was false because there were more than 30 lakh ration cards in 2022. In a scathing comment, he questioned the source of the statistics and claimed that even eligible recipients were denied basic supplies during the Congress era, while others improperly received subsidies intended for the underprivileged.

According to the Chief Minister, it is amusing that the opposition is accusing others of stealing votes. He stressed that voting is a democratic prerogative and that the people have categorically rejected Congress and its policies through their mandate.
