Haryana Financial Commissioner Dr. Sumita Misra orders DCs to fast-track 328 flood control schemes worth Rs 528 Cr, prioritizing fields and settlements.

Dr. Sumita Misra, the Financial Commissioner for Revenue and Disaster Management, gave all Deputy Commissioners instructions to review 328 flood control schemes worth Rs. 528 Cr in priority work immediately, giving protection of Abadi Deh and agricultural fields top priority. They were also instructed to return to headquarters within three days.

She gave the instructions while presiding over the 55th Haryana State Technical Advisory Committee on Floods (HSTAC) meeting. Instructing district administrations to guarantee stringent oversight of implementation, quality control, and deadline adherence at the field level, Dr. Misra stated that these projects must be finished prior to the start of the next monsoon.

Centralized Dewatering Pump Installation

In order to maintain sufficient pumping capacity in all vulnerable areas of each district and to ensure a thorough and prompt response during periods of heavy rainfall and water logging, the Financial Commissioner also instructed Deputy Commissioners to take inventory and make sure all dewatering pumps are fully operational for deployment in a centralized and strategic manner. DCs should have a ready supply of dewatering equipment well in advance.

The Committee learned that 378 flood prevention initiatives totaling Rs. 642 crores had been finished during the current fiscal year while examining the status of ongoing projects. Currently, 231 initiatives are being implemented, while 48 schemes have not yet started.

During the meeting, urban flood protection strategies were also reviewed. She also instructed that the weak spots from the previous year be carefully examined.

The State has set aside Rs. 460 crore for flood-related projects, including supplemental funding, for the upcoming monsoon. In the current year, approximately Rs. 395 crore has already been spent. Deputy Commissioners have been directed to perform routine field inspections, with a focus on embankment and river protection projects. Additionally, FCR examined the state’s progress on the Haryana Integrated Flood Management and Information System (IFMIS) and ordered that it be operationalized prior to the following board meeting.
