Surat: Following an extended delay, the development of Phase 2 of the Outer Ring Road in Surat is now scheduled to begin. The state government has authorized an initial allocation of Rs 290 crore for the project, and tenders for the construction of a 10.45 km road and viaduct have been issued. The foundation stone for the project will be laid by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Saturday, December 13.

CM Bhupendra Patel is scheduled to visit Surat on December 13 to inaugurate multiple significant initiatives within the city. Following the inauguration of the elevated market at Surat APMC, the foundation stone-laying ceremony and opening of several municipal projects will be conducted at the Veer Narmad University convention hall, where the remaining work on the Surat Outer Ring Road will also be initiated.

Recently, tenders were issued for the 10.45 km section of roadway and an overpass linking Sachin to the Surat-Kadodara Road through the Surat-Palsana Road. Of the entire 66 km of the Outer Ring Road, only this 10.45 km segment remains incomplete. Most of the work in the initial phase has been finalized, and approximately 30 km of the road, now linked to National and State Highways, constitutes an almost complete circuit road network.

In the second phase, the tender submissions exceeded the estimated costs by 14%: Rs 195 crore for the Sachin-Kadodara road and Rs 60.91 crore for the six-lane overpass. The updated cost is now Rs 220 crore for the road and Rs 69 crore for the viaduct. With official government sanction for the grant, the Outer Ring Road project has now been formally recommenced.
