AAP MLA Kuldeep Kumar accuses BJP-run MCD of a Ghazipur landfill scam, alleging debris is shown as garbage to claim crores from the corporation.
New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Kuldeep Kumar has levelled serious allegations of corruption against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) regarding waste management at Delhi’s Ghazipur landfill site. The MLA claimed that large-scale financial irregularities are taking place in the name of garbage disposal, contributing to the worsening waste crisis in the capital.
In a post shared on social media, Kuldeep Kumar asserted that the towering heaps around the Ghazipur landfill are not merely piles of garbage but include massive quantities of construction debris being dumped illegally. He alleged that a BJP councillor had himself admitted that construction material is being falsely shown as municipal solid waste, allowing the private contractor to claim inflated payments from the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).
Claims of Corrupt Practices in Waste Measurement
According to the MLA, the private company tasked with garbage lifting receives crores of rupees by showing the weight of debris as garbage. “Construction debris is dumped inside the landfill in the name of garbage. Its weight is recorded, and payment worth crores is taken from MCD,” he stated.

Kumar further alleged that this “deep-rooted corrupt system” is one of the primary reasons behind Delhi’s growing garbage problem. Despite the city struggling with inefficient waste clearance and rising landfill heights, he claimed that the company responsible for lifting waste continues to be paid excessively.
‘Delhi Drowned in Garbage Due to Corruption’
The AAP legislator said that instead of clearing garbage, the system enables private players to profit while the city suffers. “Garbage is not being lifted, but the company that lifts garbage is collecting crores of rupees from MCD,” he said, accusing the BJP of misusing public funds and neglecting civic responsibilities.

Political Back-and-Forth Intensifies
The allegations come amid ongoing political tensions between the AAP-led Delhi government and the BJP-led MCD, especially over the city’s waste management failures, landfill expansion, and the slow pace of remediation at Ghazipur, Bhalswa, and Okhla sites.
While AAP has repeatedly accused BJP of long-standing corruption in municipal operations, BJP leaders have countered by stating that AAP lacks the capability to modernize Delhi’s waste infrastructure.
As of now, the BJP and the MCD have not issued an official response to MLA Kuldeep Kumar’s latest claims.
