Ahmedabad, Gujarat — The Aam Aadmi Party has strongly criticized the Gujarat government over its revised crop procurement rules, with leader Piyush Parmar alleging that farmers are being misled and denied their rightful support under the Minimum Support Price (MSP) system.
Piyush Parmar Accuses Government of Breaking MSP Promise
AAP OBC Cell State President Piyush Parmar said the Gujarat government had earlier announced that it would purchase the entire crop produced by farmers at MSP and had also set up procurement centers for the same purpose.
However, according to Piyush , the government has now issued a new circular limiting procurement to only 100 mann of bajra and 75 mann of maize per farmer, which he described as a complete reversal of the earlier commitment.
Farmers Confused Over Limited Procurement Decision
Piyush Parmar stated that the sudden change in procurement rules has left farmers confused and worried. With crops already harvested, farmers are now unsure whether to sell at government centers with restrictions or depend on the open market.
He said this uncertainty reflects poor planning and has created dissatisfaction among farming communities across Gujarat.
Strongly criticizing the move, Piyush said the government first makes announcements to gain public trust and later changes the rules, which misleads farmers.
He added that rising fuel costs, diesel prices, and agricultural input expenses have already increased financial pressure on farmers, and restricting procurement further worsens the situation.
According to Piyush Parmar, this policy clearly reflects an anti-farmer approach by the state government.
Questions Raised on Fair MSP Implementation
Piyush Parmar also questioned how farmers will benefit from MSP if procurement is limited. He said the revised system fails to ensure fair price support and leaves farmers dependent on the unstable open market.
He demanded that the government clarify the rationale behind restricting procurement despite earlier promises of full crop purchase.
AAP Extends Support to Farmers, Piyush Appeals for Unity
The Aam Aadmi Party, along with Piyush , has expressed full support for farmers and demanded withdrawal or revision of the new circular.
Piyush also appealed to farmer organizations to unite against what he called an unjust policy and urged collective action to protect farmers’ rights.
Growing Political Debate in Gujarat
The issue has sparked political tension in the state, with Piyush Parmar becoming a prominent voice against the revised procurement system. As debate intensifies, farmers continue to face uncertainty regarding crop sales and government support under the new rules.
