Ahmedabad, Gujarat — The Aam Aadmi Party has raised serious concerns over child health indicators in the state, citing the Gujarat malnutrition NFHS-6 report, which highlights persistent malnutrition levels despite heavy government spending on nutrition schemes.
Dr. Karan Barot Highlights Gujarat Malnutrition NFHS-6 Report Findings
AAP State Organization Minister Dr. Karan Barot said the Gujarat malnutrition NFHS-6 report clearly shows that nearly one-third of children under the age of five in Gujarat are still affected by stunting and undernutrition.
He stated that these figures expose the gap between government claims and ground-level reality.
High Levels of Child Malnutrition in Gujarat
According to Dr. Barot, the Gujarat malnutrition NFHS-6 report reveals that around 35% of children under five are not growing as per age standards, while nearly 20% are underweight.

He added that both urban and rural areas show worrying levels of malnutrition, with rural regions performing worse in comparison.
AAP Calls Situation a Policy Failure
The Aam Aadmi Party said the Gujarat malnutrition NFHS-6 report proves that government schemes are not delivering results on the ground despite spending over ₹1,000 crore on child nutrition programs.
Dr. Karan Barot alleged that the focus has shifted more toward publicity rather than actual improvement in child health indicators.
Dr. Karan Barot Demands White Paper on Malnutrition
Referring again to the Gujarat malnutrition NFHS-6 report, Dr. Barot demanded that the state government issue a white paper explaining why malnutrition levels remain high despite multiple schemes like Anganwadi nutrition programs and milk distribution initiatives.

He also urged the government to declare malnutrition a public health emergency in Gujarat.

The Aam Aadmi Party reiterated that the findings of the Gujarat malnutrition NFHS-6 report are alarming and require immediate corrective action, especially in tribal and rural districts where the situation is more severe.
Dr. Barot concluded that without accountability and transparency, child malnutrition will continue to remain a serious challenge in the state.
